A real page turner and very exciting until I found out more details about how stubborn Andy McNab (Not his real name) was about having his troop move into central Iraq by helicopter and covering vast areas of desert on foot carrying enourmous weights of kit and then trying to flee when a young boy reported his Troop's location to some armed Iraqis. Lucky Arabs usually pray and spray or the whole lot of them would have been killed.A real page turner and very exciting until I found out more details about how stubborn Andy McNab (Not his real name) was about having his troop move into central Iraq by helicopter and covering vast areas of desert on foot carrying enourmous…

Interesting reading Colonel Hackworth's views but doesn't compare to his first book, "About Face" and his Vietnam memoir of one of his four tours called "Steel my Solier's Heart." Those are two books really worth reading.

Highly recommended!! I believe David Hackworth is still the most decorated soldier in the history of the US armed forces and the medals he was proudest of were his eight Purple Hearts for battle wounds. That will give you a small look into this Mustang officer's personality from a young seventeen year old at the end of World War two serving in Trieste, Italy and then onto his outstanding service in the Korean war with his beloved Wolfhounds and his Vietnam record only gets better with four combat tours. Most of the army generals hated him unless they needed a tough mission to get done and pull their azzes out of some shit storm they created flying high above the battlefield.Highly recommended!! The invasion of Iraq has turned into a quagmire and if you read this book you will be very thankful there is no chance one of Saddam's sons will ever rule Iraq. What a savage he raised and his "good" son was the head of Iraq's secret police, the Mukabarat who tortured and killed hundreds if not thousands of innocent Iraqis. The invasion of Iraq has turned into a quagmire and if you read this book you will be very thankful there is no chance one of Saddam's sons will ever rule Iraq. An excellent read and a pretty good movie about the troubles in Northern Ireland and one man's decision to give out IRA plans to the other side to save lives. The book is quite funny at times and tragic at other moments.

Eric Hammel writes a fantastic account of the first land battle of the USA's drive back in the Solomon Islands to take and keep Henderson field from the Japanese. A book that describes only a small but important portion of what the USA did wrong in this war. The poor soldiers who fought for days to take this important hill in the A-Shau Valley and the day after walked away from it and I'm sure the NVA moved another unit right back into this fortress a week later. Not very good for moral and even worse for the dead and wounded and what was their sacrifice for? The battle was fought with some high ranking officer flying above the battlefield safe from ground fire and directing air strikes and helicopter gun runs that on occasion missed badly and killed and wounded several US soldiers. Worth reading and a disgrace at the same time.A book that describes only a small but important portion of what the USA did wrong in this war. A must read of a true hero and John Kennedy could have used his family's power to avoid the war and he did the exact opposite. He demanded to be sent to the Pacific and be assigned to the dangerous duty as a skipper of a plywood PT Boat. After his boat was sliced in half at night by a Japanese Destroyer John Kennedy did everything in his power to save the surviving members of his crew. An excellent book written by the son of a Navy Corpsman who never spoke of the horrors he witnessed during that awful battle. Did the previous reader even read this book and the flag raising he describes isn't even close to the truth. The 5th Marines took Mount Surabachi and was sent on a patrol to the top and was given the unit's flag to raise on the top if they made it that far. The whole island and the naval armanda erupted in cheers with most vessels blowing their sirens when the first flag went up. A high ranking officer came ashore right after this incident and brought a larger flag and wanted the original flag as a souvenier. There was a second flag raising and photographer Joe Rosenthal was lucky to notice this event and snap the famous picture that is now a precious symbol of the Marines and the historic battles and sacrifices they've made throughout their incredible history. Highly recommended!!An excellent book written by the son of a Navy Corpsman who never spoke of the horrors he witnessed during that awful battle.
