Nightwish's second and last album with Anette Olzon is excellent. My only issue with the album is that Song Of Myself has Nightwish's usual problem with 10+ minute songs of feeling about 5 minutes longer than it really needed to be. (the live version of it only lasts about 7 minutes due to the meandering narration being cut)Nightwish's second and last album with Anette Olzon is excellent. If there's one band that could just decide to make a kids album and do a great job at it, it would be the Barenaked Ladies. The whole album is hilarious, and musically it sounds exactly like any other Barenaked Ladies album (Here Come The Geese in particular wouldn't sound out of place on one of their newer albums - it's exactly the type of song Kevin Hearn usually sings). My personal favorites are "The Ninjas", "I Don't Like", and "Here Come The Geese". My only complaint is that some of the songs are a bit too shortIf there's one band that could just decide to make a kids album and do a great job at it, it would be the Barenaked Ladies. I picked this up because it sounded like the adult equivalent of Skulduggery Pleasant, which I really liked. It didn't disappoint me. It's hard-boiled detective fiction combined with urban fantasy, with a great cast of likable characters and an interesting plot. Really good book, if you can get past the massive length of the series (currently at 15 books, not including the short stories omnibus).I picked this up because it sounded like the adult equivalent of Skulduggery Pleasant, which I really liked. I recommend reading the book first, because there are a few minor scenes left out, but overall it's a faithful adaption of the first part of Storm Front, with nice art.

The first half of this book was great, and even better than the first book, but the second half makes the mistake of trying to explain what's going on and ends up shoehorning in some plot elements that don't make sense and ends up making it unclear exactly what the motivation of the main villain is. Instead of the intense mind screw of the first book, Dan, Abby, and Jordan now have to run the gauntlet of horror cliches - creepy carnival, evil cult, town with a dark secret, mind control, etc - and it doesn't quite all come together. The first half was really good, and then the second half was a let-down. Worth reading if you liked the first book. The first half of this book was great, and even better than the first book, but the second half makes the mistake of trying to explain what's going on and ends up shoehorning in some plot elements that don't make sense and ends up making it unclear…

I have 2 main problems with this book - the first one being that the library has it mislabeled as issue #1, when it's actually issue #8. The other is that it's too short. It would be nice to have a collection of several issues, but this is only issue 8, making it incredibly short by itself. The story is ok, centering around the Purity Control program from the earlier seasons, but is slightly confusing since it is cut off from a five-part arc that started off the comic, which I assume explains the appearances of characters that died in the show, and doesn't conclude in this issue. It's worth reading if you're a fan of the show, but I'd recommend trying to get your hands on the issues that come before it first.I have 2 main problems with this book - the first one being that the library has it mislabeled as issue #1, when it's actually issue #8. Easily the most disappointing book in the series, but still worth reading. It has several connected plot lines, but suffered from a terrible ending and the absence of several characters. That being said, it has a lot going for it, too - continuing the saga of why the earth is back in existence that started in So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish, the return of the Vogons, Arthur as the sandwich-maker, Random Dent (a severely underused character), 2 Trillians, and one of the best throwaway jokes of the entire series - The King. Not nearly as good as the first 4, but still not bad.Easily the most disappointing book in the series, but still worth reading. Containing all 5 original Hitchhiker's Guide books, A Trilogy in Five Parts is definitely worth getting to read though the entire series at once. (Or just the first 4 - a lot of people will tell you that Mostly Harmless is disappointing)

Hilarious. Douglas Adams has a Monty Python style sense of humor, so I would recommend it to fans of Monty Python. Adapted from Fits 1-4 of the original BBC radio series.

Peeps is one of the more interesting takes on vampires I've read. Everything is kept as realistic as possible. Vampirism is caused by a parasite, and every other chapter diverts from the story to explain some real-world parasite, including Toxoplasmosis, Malaria, and Flukeworms. Because of that, I wouldn't recommend it to people who are squeamish about germs. The other interesting thing was that for the most part it stayed away from horror, almost staying closer to a medical thriller.Peeps is one of the more interesting takes on vampires I've read. Despite suffering from bad production in a few places, Redeemer of Souls is actually pretty good. Most of the songs feel like songs from older albums. March of the Damned's riff feels like a cross between British Steel era Judas Priest and Black Sabbath. Metalizer sounds like something from Angel of Retribution, and Halls of Valhalla sounds like it came from Painkiller (in addition to including the best scream on the album.). Standout songs for me are Dragonaut, Halls of Valhalla, Sword of Damocles, Hell & Back, and Crossfire. Overall, Night Shift was very good. I found a large amount of the stories scarier that both of Stephen King's full-length novels I've read so far (Carrie and the Dead Zone). Some of the stories were better than others. Jerusalem's Lot is a H.P. Lovecraft homage, despite sharing a setting with 'Salem's Lot, which it also shares with One For The Road, which is set after 'Salem's Lot. Night Surf is set in the same post-apocalyptic world as The Stand. The other 17 stories are all standalone. Jerusalem's Lot, The Boogeyman, Gray Matter, Trucks, Quitters Inc, and Children of the Corn were my personal favorites. Night Shift is defiantly worth reading if you're a fan of Stephen King or horror fiction in general.Overall, Night Shift was very good. Brain Jack had some similar computer hacking elements to Cory Doctorow's Little Brother, except where Little Brother was trying to get across a message, Brain Jack was trying to be a good story. I liked it, up until the ending which I found a little unsatisfying. I really enjoyed Beyond. The main premise of the book is that Jane's shadow isn't just a shadow: it has tried to kill her a few times, which everyone else thinks are suicide attempts. The first part of the book is told a little out of order, with a lot of flashbacks and explanations, which I liked. The sentient shadow idea was scary, and the characters worked well. I'd recommend this to people who like horror fiction, and especially people who have read Graham McNamee's other books.I really enjoyed Beyond. The Dead Zone was a very interesting and strange book. I liked the plot, which did not progress as linearly as some books. There were 2 side stories that ran through the book, eventually meeting up with the life of John Smith at different points in the book and playing major roles. I liked the amount of setup these characters had, which made them seem more fully developed than if they were just thrown in.
