Repetitive Dialogue, Poorly written scenes. E.L. James has only a passing knowledge with writing technique. The story line is the same as Twilight.
This is a bad book in a rather bad series. Bad Character development (nonresistant really), worse plot development and really nothing redeeming about it.
If we put aside the fact that the book is poorly written - it gives a horrible message to women - that their self worth is defined by the desire (or lack there of) of a man. That they should allow men to mentally abuse them. I am not talking about the bondage type stuff between consenting adults, I reference the abuse that is text book abuse, that occurs outside of the bedroom. And if you couple the non bedroom abuse with what he actually does "behind closed doors", this is not something women should desire - rather stamp out.
This book sends a bad message to women everywhere and frankly should not be on the shelves with real writers.Repetitive Dialogue, Poorly written scenes. E.L. James has only a passing knowledge with writing technique. The story line is the same as Twilight.

Awful book - poorly written fan fiction from a not much better series (twilight).
The writing technique is poor at best.
The story line is a rip off of a tween romance novel.
The "Oh My's" are so repetitive it hurts.
This is nothing more than mommy porn trumped up in the trappings of literature.
And it isn't event very good mommy porn.Awful book - poorly written fan fiction from a not much better series (twilight).

Good book. Interesting plot development and you can easily relate to the characters. In a genre that is receiving a lot of print lately - its nice to run into something fresh and new.

I loved this whole series, as a little girl. I have always remembered it fondly. Re-reading it as an adult - I wish I had left it as a child hood memory. Now that my taste has matured - its to simple. Good book for girls ages 10 - 14. Not so good for adults.I loved this whole series, as a little girl. I have always remembered it fondly. Good down time book. Not a riveting novel. Better than what was on T.V. - But not something that makes me want to check out what else the author has read. Not bad - not good ...it was OK.
