I stopped reading this book at page 52. It is, as the cover proclaims, "Extremely tense and very gripping." Too much so for this woman.

Too many names and nicknames (who would dare to call Deborah "Debbie'?). Lily's biracial son Sam, with his conveniently absent father, felt like a "woke" edit or insertion.

An amazing number of people blamed her in part for 9/11 which is ridiculous. Unfortunately, she blamed herself, too. I suspect if she'd have recovered faster if she'd taken antidepressants. Her guilt is appalling and long lasting

I recommend reading the last piece, "Changes," first. It's autobiographical and gave me a better understanding of her career.

Fascinating book. The early Christian zealots were much like today's Taliban. I recommend the motion picture "Agora," which tells of Hypatia's life and horrific death.

I had just discovered many, many Our Gang and Little Rascals shorts on tubi.com and found the book fascinating. Lee refers to the actors by their real names and by their movie character names, This can lead to confusion.
This is also a scholarly study of Black Hollywood and of racial discrimination nationwide. The Black "gang" kids visited and gave interviews to Black newspapers (e.g. Chicago Defender) which were utterly enamored with the young actors.I had just discovered many, many Our Gang and Little Rascals shorts on tubi.com and found the book fascinating. I bought a copy and read it in a day. I'd been following Andrea Constand's fight for justice all along (as a lesbian and as a women's basketball fan). Powerful and factual. And so very maddening.

I, too, felt I'd read this book already. Of course I hadn't, but I followed the news very closely. It's valuable as historic, though it's a shame so many sources remained anonymous. 3 stars is the lowest rating I've ever given a Karin Slaughter novel. I almost gave up half way through "False Witness," but forced myself to finish it. There's too much misery.

I was disappointed. There's not much more eros here than in KJ Dover's classic "Greek Homosexuality" (1978, 1979). I wonder if the author and publisher took a fine history of 4th century BC Greece and retitled it for wider sale to gay men and lesbians.I was disappointed. A detailed and well written history of the commission, its struggles and achievements. As for 9/11, I blame lack of imagination more than any conspiracy theory. The FAA and NORAD just never thought anything like this could happen. They should have. I'm glad the authors tried to make amends for being so gentle with former NYC Mayor Giuliani. Unfortunately, he became for many a hero, America's Mayor, and his failings forgotten.A detailed and well written history of the commission, its struggles and achievements. Some parts of this book deserve 5 stars, while others rate zero. As a lifetime Amazon believer, I enjoyed the historical material. As a lesbian, I was torn to bits by Mia's on and off relationship with Billie. (Why is there a Billy, too?) In the end, I would prefer female aliens coming here to help us improve our world, not escape it. I'd cut the blood and gore. Was Mia's impregnation borrowed from Nadia's virginity loss on "Counterpart"?Some parts of this book deserve 5 stars, while others rate zero.
