This book had an interesting plot, but it does have some shady things in it; demons, creatures of the underworld, dark magic, etc. I would not recommend this book for anyone under 13 or 14. None of it is very scary, but I think the person…

This was a really fun read. I had read the Twelve Dancing Princesses fairytale, but it had been a while, so as I went along I would remember things and be like “oh yeah! This thing!” That was just fun for me. But that doesn’t say much…

A great story that seems to be a simple fractured fairytale, but the deeper you go the more twists and turns there are. The twelve dancing princesses is part of the story but so is beauty and the beast and maybe the greek myth of…

This book is AWESOME! I mean, it was kind of lame, I felt like the twelve dancing princesses thing was too obvious, but WOW! I read the back cover and my mind was just blown. It was based off of beauty and the beast too? Things started…

This book was just the best. I loved the female centered hero and the mythological back ground. I had read Handbook For Dragon Slayers before but I think I like this one a little better. They were both perfect to get lost in and helped me…

This book was interesting, but I found that often it was predictable. I enjoyed the mythology and herbology, and the heroine was a character within herself, but sometimes I was confused and lost. However, I loved the use of characters and…

This was a REALLY good book. I'd recommend it for ages 9-13. The writing is very smooth and complex, and there is some mythology blended in.The ties to the 12 dancing princesses are prominent. The setting and time is pretty unusual, which…

In this retelling of The Thirteen Dancing Princesses (complete with a dash of Beauty and the Beast), set in the Middle Ages, thirteen-year-old Reveka is an herbalist’s apprentice in the palace of Sylvania. The unfortunate…

This is an INCREDIBLY WELL DONE BOOK. The main character, Reveka, is refreshing, hilarious, witty, and much braver and interesting that you'd expect. It's a spin on the 12 dancing princesses and Beauty & the Beast layered with dark magic,…

This book was great! Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorites so reading a fairy tale retelling that combined it with another was really fun. This book had intriguing characters and an interesting plot that kept you guessing what would…

Herbalist apprentice Reveka, anxious to have enough money to enter a convent and start her own herbary, dreams of freeing 12 largely ungrateful Romanian princesses from their curse. A mysterious prince in shadows, a mouthbreathing cowherd,…

It seems to be a season of looking at fairy tales in a new way. Here we have the combination of two stories – The Twelve Dancing Princesses again (see The Thirteenth Princess by Diane Zahler) and Beauty and the Beast (by Wendy Mass)…

Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. A wonderful, humorous blend of several fairytales and Greek mythology. Highly recommended for those who like Patricia Wrede's Enchanted Forest Chronicles.
