A mid-60s paranoid political thriller about an ambitious officer plotting to overthrow a weak president. A little slow, but well-acted (Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, Ava Gardner), stylishly shot and a little creepy. Forms a kind of paranoid trilogy with "The Manchurian Candidate" and "Seconds." Oliver Stone probably loves this movie.

Excellent political thriller with an original but believable plot about a military takeover of the US government during the height of the Cold War. Excellent acting by both Lancaster and Douglas. Timeless classic.
