This is the first book in a delightful trilogy - very creative! The other reviewer is correct: it is not a horror book ... it actually reminds me of The Lord of the Rings, but much shorter. It's on the Young Adult shelves, but anyone from middle school up who likes fantasy will enjoy the book. The author is actually a graphic artist, and his illustrations are an extra treat. But be careful when reading the appendix (called an "Explicarium") as it contains spoilers for the whole series. Highly recommended!

A must read. Very original, very interesting. From the title you might think it's a scary book, but it's not that at all. It's an adventure book, and boy does it deliver.
