Bud Johnson is an apathetic, beer drinking, lovable loser, who is coasting through a life that is passed him by. His one bright spot in his mundane existence is his precocious, over achieving twelve-year old daughter, Molly. She takes care of them both. She accidentally sets off a chain of events on Election Day, which culminates in the presidential election coming down to one vote, Bud's. Suddenly, Bud becomes the voice for everybody when the world realizes that his vote will be the one that elects the next president. really enjoyed this one.Original and different story line without falling into the same old hollywood formulas. Actually quite star-studded! A feel good movie by the end.

Improbable story line. The real story is the relationship between father and daughter, which provides an inspiring and feel- good story.

Good - Swing Vote (2008) 120 min. This is a political “fairy tale” about one man deciding who the next American president will be. I’m not sure if this political rarity is even possible. Despite the questionable reality of the pretence of this film, the film has really nothing to do with answering platform issues and who the best man for the presidency is. It’s about a little girl’s relationship with her dad. If you keep your focus on this aspect of the story, the film works very well. Kevin Costner is wonderful as the father, who seems to have given up on everything including his little girl played affectionately by Madeline Carroll. Costner really had to “dumb down” for this role which may not be very attractive to the ladies. I wonder what the producers of this picture were thinking when they hired both Kelsie Grammar and Dennis Hopper to play the presidential candidates (especially Dennis Hopper; he’s just scary). Again, this is a fairy tale and the election coverage is not intended to be the main story. Finally, the film does end abruptly and may leave you wanting more.

A great satire on the American political system. I found that more entertaining than some of the intended comedy. Kevin Costner is very stereotypical at the beginning and the end (if you've seen the movie you'll understand the difference between the two). The real star is Madeline Carroll who plays Molly, the hope and intelligence of the American voting population.
