Kirkus Reviews
When Coach changes the biology-class seating chart, e-zine reporter Nora Grey finds herself instantly attracted to yet fearful of her new dark, sexy, bad-boy partner, Patch. She also becomes acquainted with good-looking transfer student Elliot, the key suspect in a murder-ruled-suicide at his former prep school. While putting her journalist skills to the test researching the backgrounds of both mysterious guys, Nora experiences terrifying hallucinations, saves her best friend from an attack meant for her and discovers that Patch is a fallen angel who wants to become humanat any cost. In a thrilling debut with an attention-grabbing cover, this game of revenge among fallen angels with Nora caught in the middle has too many coincidences to move the plot along and an uneven, rushed ending. Twilight readers will either squeal over the forbidden romance between Nora and Patch and the steamy scenes they generate or sigh over another helpless young woman torn between sexuality and fear and threatened and manipulated by males who play with her vulnerability. This book is very similar to Twilight but with fallen angels instead of vampires, a slightly (slightly being the keyword here) better protagonist/main love interest, and I found the plot (as well as the details and resolutions surrounding it) a lot more thought out and thorough. But overall, it's basically Twilight. If you liked that, you'd probably like this book.
Personally, I didn't like it. I was hoping it would try something new, but it was just a Twilight clone with different mythical beasts.
I don't even know where to start with this book. One minute I'm scared the next I'm super excited! This was one of the best books I have read in a very long time! So good, and just makes you want to keep on reading. I read the book in one day! Every spare moment I had I was reading, it was that good!
this book was the best!! :)
i actually really enjoyed this book but i found it to be a LOT like twilight. girl falls for mysterious bio partner. except it was about fallen angels, not vampires with was really refreshing
this book is amazing!!! cant wait for the next one to come out!!!
i absolutely LOVED this book! :) it's one of my favorites and one that i'll be able to read over and over again and still not want to put it down! :D
I've never heard of this book before but saw suggestions to read if since I liked twilight. It really hooked me right from the start. I didn't put it down till it was done. I really want the story to go on. I like Patch!
Hush, Hush has been getting a lot of hype lately. That's why I decided to pick it up and see just what was getting everybody so excited.
Well I can definitely see why so many people like this book. It was amazing. Having already read Lauren Kate's novel Fallen, the whole fallen angel idea was one I was excited to read about again.
I was not disappointed. This book is comparable to Fallen, but still a lot different. It goes at the fallen angel story from a different direction completely.
And I loved it! The characters were so deep and developed. From the first page I felt so much anticipation, because the plot takes off at a high speed right from the start.
And the romantic aspect? Perfectly brilliant. I don't want to give too much away, so I'll just say WOW. I am most definitely looking forward to the sequel!
Wow. This book was painful to read. I hate reading books that don't live up to the potential contained in the basic idea. This was one of them. It was shallow, and the characters were about as well rounded as a cardboard cut-out. As has been pointed out, the cover art was what sucked me in. Unfortunately a lot of the terrible twilight spin offs have beautiful covers. If you have any taste in good writing, avoid this.
Wow. That's all I can say. What a good book! I can't for the sequel, Crescendo, which comes out in November 2010.
This book is seriously amazing and way too addicting! I wasn't able to stop reading it till it got really late and then I finished it as soon as I woke up! I think 'Patch is sooo cool'. Seriously. I recommend the book for annyone who likes to read about mysteryous people.
So: I L-O-V-E Hush Hush.
I absolutly loved this book. It was just amazing. I loved the connection between Nora and Patch. Can't wait for the second one.
Amazing Book. I've read it over at least 3 times. I liked it so much that I bought it.
It relates to modern issues well keeping with the fantasy vibes. Overall it's amazing.
I greatly enjoyed this book, but as someone else pointed out, it would have been more interesting from Patch's POV. You really have no idea who is 'bad', and what is really going on. Nora starts out by saying that she and her best friend Vee are nearly twins, yet there seems to be little substance to their friendship. Vee's interests revolve around boys and dieting. I also wish there had been something more to Nora's connection with Patch. Although this story presents more in the end (Patch's conflicted emotions and desires) their relationship really appears to be an abusive one as he bullys her into situations, and she allows it though she has no good feelings about him.
Not really sure where they can take this in a sequel, but I am sure I will read it for interests sake. I feel that these characters could have been developed a little more, giving the story some more depth.
first 1/2 is really slow but the ending is exciting and the plot and subject matter are intresting.
It's such a good book...it sorta has a twilight aura but not much...personally i don't like fantasy books but this was ok. Five stars.
This book had me torn like the back of a fallen angel. The electricity that is created by the author is incredible and drives the story forward. Their chemistry, mixed with the danger and intrigue, kept me reading. At the same time, the story descended into the obscure with layers of nonsensical climaxes.
Hush, Hush closely follows the formula of paranormal teen romance, but fades near the end. It had all the promise of being "Twilight," but degraded into a "Cathy's Book." A good read, but not even a strong suspension of reality can give it wings.
Loved this book - read it in a day. Couldn't put it down, amazing read.
Nora is a typical High School student. She and her best friend shop, talk about boys and sit beside each other in every class they can. That all changes when her biology teacher makes them switch seats and Nora ends up beside Patch, a very good looking new student who gives off an alien vibe.
Turns out that Patch is fallen angel who may or may not have nefarious plans for Nora. Nora knows it, but yet she finds herself drawn to him. Can she figure out who to trust before it's too late.
Clearly aimed at the Twilight market, this book suffers from one fatal flaw. It is part of a growing group of modern teen girl fiction that shows true love only exists in abusive relationships. Patch stalks Nora through a great deal of this book, forcing her to go on dates with him and generally harassing her. I get that girls like to rebel by dating the bad boy, but surely in this day and age we can tell young women that relationships can be epic without being unhealthy.
Really good book! You don't really know what is going on until the end, which makes it really addictive and somewhat unpredictable. I recommend this book to teens.
This book is AWESOME. So much in fact, that I'm going to return my library copy this week and go buy my own copy to read again!
If you enjoyed Fallen by Lauren Kate, you will like this book even more. From the beginning, the author pulls you in with mysterious characters and an intriguing plot line. I found myself so drawn into the relationship between Nora and Patch and a desire to know what was going to happen next--I couldn't put the book down!
The book has it's flaws, as does any book by a new author, but one can easily overlook the flaws and embrace the author's plot line. I hope that the sequel, slated to hit the shelves sometime this fall, makes up for some of the character development lacking in this book. I feel like there is still so much that we don't know about the main characters and so much to build on there.
This book drew in my right away, I couldn't put it down. The action was non-stop and I couldn't decide between Pack and Elliot of who was good and bad. The chemistry between Patch and Nora was so strong I was cheering for those two. I finished this book within 2 days and I'm hoping there is a book 2.
Around October of last year I bought this book because of the cover. It made me think what this book would be about. So when I got home I started reading it and was so into it. I had to know what would happen between Nora and Patch. And from then on I was hooked and cannot wait for her to write the next book. But the in the book there is a problem thy occurs and you start pointing fingers but it won't be who you think it is. Becca Fitzpatrick is an amazing author. With the whole Twilight thing going on. I wanted for a little to get away from it and hush, hush is great! The chemistry between the two is strong and intresting. You'll for sure enjoy this book! I recommended to all my friends!
I LOVED this book. I must admit, I had no idea what it was about when I bought it. It took me a couple of months to start reading it, because I had put it on my shelf and forgotten about it. But once I started reading it, I could NOT put it down! It made me dissapointed that I had not bothered to read it earlier.
This book captured me from the first chapter. I found Patch to be a very interesting character, with that air of mystery and "i know something you don't" attitude. I fell in love with his character right from the beggining. I loved Nora, though I admit I couldn't be bothered with her friend, Vee, that much. There was an excellent plot, and I never suspected who the bad guy was. I was so shocked when I found it, but I recalled many times where Becca Fitzpatrick had forshadowed it. Very nice literary techniques on her part.
Reading this was a breath of fresh air -- after all of the vampire books and obsessions with Edward Cullen, it was nice to read about something else.
Admitedly, there were some faults; some things I think the author could have improved on. But, this was Becca's debut book, and for a first book it was stunning and well planned and written. I like how it mentioned the Bible and the book Enoch.
I loved this book, and I hope you will too. I give it a full 5 stars. Plus, the cover art is pretty amazing.
The book was quite interesting, the series has a lot of potential. Slightly similar to Fallen by Lauren Kate. The plot has some unexpected twists and is overall quite a great novel. Because of the intimacy and violence, Hush Hush is probably suitable for a 15+ audience. I think the book was worth buying and would definately recommend it.
I agree fully with "rec0rdsrule"... the ONLY thing this book has going for it is the cover art! I was intrigued by the fallen angel vs. immortals plot that is outlined on the inside cover - BUT in the approx. 350 pages, the author doesn't mention angels (fallen or otherwise) until page 247 !!! Very disappointed, there was a lot of potential character development, and only 50 pages of the book is devoted to why and how an angel falls - a poor addition to the now HUGE genera of fantasy (Bella was much more believable and likable then Nora). Another bone of contention: all intimate scenes walk a thin line of violence. I would hate for a young woman to think a boy can treat her the way Patch does. I think this book would have been much more interesting told from Patch's perspective. One full star for the cover art.
If you've read Evermore, you've read this. The most attractive part of the entire thing is the cover art. Another entry in the new trend of supernatural young adult written poorly, with half sketched characters, ill convinced plot lines, and terrible morals. Save your time, and go back to read the Dark is Rising.
This book was really good, it had me thinking what's going to happen next. loved it. I want to know what will happen with Nora and Patch. Loved it
I wanna read this book so bad :D i can't wait til its in
