Summary

When the ship she works on crashes on a Switzerland glacier, things don't look good. Until she meets a mysterious boy named Alek... Alek is a clanker; Deryn is a darwinist. But when they work together, they might just be able to find a way off of the glacier. A steampunk fantasy about World War one that never was...

Frightening or Intense Scenes: There is a lot of fighting in the book nothing to gorey or anything. But it's world war I what do you expect?
Coarse Language: Nothing too bad, just Deryn's articulate speech. Alek swears at moments.

Leviathan is set in an alternate timeline during World War 1. This timeline has several differences from actual historical events, including that the first assassination attempt on Archduke Franz Ferdinand failed, but he was poisoned later that night. The most obvious difference between Leviathan and our timeline is the technology. The Allies (‘darwinists’) use genetically modified animals (the Leviathan is a flying whale, which sounds more ridiculous than it is), and the Central Powers (‘clankers’) use steampunk vehicles. Franz Ferdinand’s only son Aleksandar is one of the main characters. Alek spends most of the book on the run in his Stomwalker (a small steampunk walker). The other main character is Deryn/Dylan Sharp, a girl disguised as a boy in the Darwinist army, serving on the Leviathan. A really good book.
okay look this book was interesting. But the issue was they are at war but there is no cussing and they dont describe violence what they need violence !!!!!!!!???????? this author is a bumb
Really good book. I love the humour that Dylan (Deryn) makes at Alek's expense later on in it.
I love this book. Both points of view are strong and the plot great. It is a bit slow to start I guess. The other two books, "Behemoth" and "Goliath" both really add on to the story as well. Just read it already.
I was a little leary at first but it was a really good book. I should have known it would be Scott Westerfeld is an awesome author. I really liked the whole alternate history idea that was really cool. i am now on to book two Behemoth. :)

I love this book. Strong Characters, both female and male which I am happy about considering the time period it is based in. I really like the way it combines real information into an alternate history.
An awesome story! I can't wait to read the next book. I thought this book was so good, I even bought the whole trilogy! I really enjoyed the detail in the writing and how every two chapters it rotated between Alek and Deryn. It gave a different point of view of the situation they were in. The amazing pictures were a bonus! They were like an extra explanation of the fictional items incorporated throughout the novel.
