She has never quite fit in at school...or at home. When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change. But she could never have guessed the truth--that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face...and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart."--p.[4] of cover.

Summary
Add a Summaryimage On the eve of her sixteenth birthday, Meghan Chase is confronted with a scene straight out of Pet Cemetery when she and her mother are attacked by her four year old brother. Her best friend Robbie (aka the famous Puck) saves her and reveals that her brother has been switched with a faery changeling and the only way to get him back is to find the kidnapper in the Nevernever (aka faeryland). The world of the faery is as terrifying as it is beautiful. In her quest, Meghan is nearly eaten several times, ripped apart by trolls, drowned by nixies, impaled by a prince, raped by a herd of satyrs, and boiled by Goblins. And that's not even half of it. There is nothing sweet and gentle about the fey in this book.
Meghan has always felt that she didn't quite fit in. But she could always rely on her best friend, Robbie, for a smile and her little brother, Ethan, for a hug. On her 16th birthday, Meghan's world is shaken to the core when Ethan is kidnapped and she finds out that Robbie is not what he appears to be. Determined to rescue Ethan, Meghan enters the faery realm where the Summer and Winter fey are eternally at odds. Meghan becomes a pawn in their deadly game and knows she cannot trust anyone. Even so, she needs help to battle her way across the Nevernever in search of Ethan and must decide whether the gorgeous but dangerous Winter prince can be trusted. When a cruel and twisted power threatens to destroy all of Nevernever, will Meghan find her brother before it’s too late? Grades 8-12, 363 pages

Add a CommentThe whole series reminds me of the Alice in Wonderland series...and not in a good way. I love Puck though!
It's not bad, but it's not great either. I think that some parts are a bit slow, and I think the ending is too... anti-climactic. In my opinion.
It's a sweet book and all, very fun to read. However, it seems like a conglomeration of a bunch of other stories. (The author didn't make up anything new. Totally not original, yet still a fun book!) There is no deep meaning or high quality literature. But The Iron King is still worth the fun, quick read!
hmmm.... i dont understand why there are so many holds on this book. i mean, i love this book and all, but still! the iron queen and daughter is wayyyy better than this book and they have like 0 holds. you can find those two books in the turning racks and is there one copy of the iron king, the one that started it all? NO! not a single copy, not where i look. shouldnt the library staff look at how much ppl love this book and order more??
2011 Teens top ten
Unbelievably wonderful book. It combines grace with darkness. The brooding feeling it gives you makes you never want the edventure to end. It makes you want to live in that world, no matter how dangerous it is.
I loved this book, but there were some faults. Julie Kagawa was really creative and imaginative with NeverNever and the fey, but I found myself a little annoyed with the characters. Meghan could be really brave and completely weeny at times. She screams waaay too much; I'd have a migraine if I was traveling with her. Also, I don't think Kagawa goes into the sibling relationship enough in the beginning of the book. Meghan doesn't seem to be to crazy about her family in the beginning of the book, but when her brother is stolen, she suddenly becomes obsessed with finding him. It's also annoying how she falls for every sexy guy she meets.
This is a tough category - there are a lot of really well-written books that have this same sort of theme. I thought it was cool that she invented a new type of fairy, but the rest of it was boring.
Team Ash forever <3
I was pleasantly surprised by this book! It was fun to read and quite a page turner at times. "I am a cat" = best explanation ever
