The author did a great job of research to try to understand the REAL Cleopatra. She was an extremely intelligent and powerful leader in a very complex and brutal world. I was
really impressed with her leadership and political skills.

Informational & entertaining view of one of my favorite women in history.

This is a brilliant book, a story of a remarkable life and period of world history.

Cleopatra was a fascinating woman. Her image has been controlled by men who made her out to be one thing so that they could contrast themselves against her. Much of the documentation seems to be about her only in relationship to Caesar or Mark Antony, or Octavian, but Schiff has found a Cleopatra that was canny, intelligent and endlessly charming. I really enjoyed Schiff's writing and phraseology.

The author provides compelling insights and contexts that expand our understanding of the Egyptian Queen in an engaging way. Clearly, Cleopatra led an epic life. Obviously, Cleopatra was extremely shrewd. She used her affairs with Julius Cesar and Mark Antony to further her own political agenda and power. Although the book was dry in a few spots, I found myself picking it up at every opportunity. Well written, interesting and persuasive, I would highly recommend this book to anyone. This book would also make an excellent gift.

I don't think this book translates well to the audio format. I found it hard to follow
