Book 1 in Bloodline series (out of 6); followed by The Golden Lily. This book is a spin off from Vampire Academy and it focuses on Sydney, Adrian, Jill and Eddie. It is not as action packed as VA but it is still enjoyable. I am hoping Adrian's character develops, because I don't find him as exciting as Dimitri - same for Sydney vs Rose.

I fell in love with this author when I read Vampire Academy, which was one of my favorites. I didn't think Mead could exceed her previous series but I was pleasantly surprised by this spin-off. When Vampire Academy ended I felt there where so many unanswered questions about Sydney and Adrian. I really find their story captivating. I was totally on teal Adrian Ivashkov! :)

Sydney Sage is 18. She is also an Alchemist. A secret race of people dedicated to keeping the human and vampire worlds apart. Now, on her next mission, Sydney is to pose as the roommate of Jill Dragomir, at a boarding school in Palm Springs. She is to act as her guardian. The race Moroi do not like the elected queen, and Jill is her only relative, but in order to keep the throne she must have at least one living relative. So the Moroi are targeting Jill, and it's Sydney's job to keep her safe. Only the assignment is in Keith Darnell's "territory", and they have a bad history and want nothing to do with each other. And they have to pretend to be brother and sister. This is Sydney's worst nightmare, but to prevent a Civil War and protect her younger sister,Zoe, she would do anything. AMAZING!!!!!!

Bloodlines is a very well written novel by Richelle Mead, the author of the Vampire Academy series. Bloodlines is a spinoff of the Vampire Academy series. Both of the series share many characters and they both take place in Richelle Mead’s world of vampires, alchemists, and dhampirs. Since I did not read the Vampire Academy series I was worried that I would not understand the novel, but I had no problem grasping the concept and I ended up really enjoying it. Bloodlines is full of action, includes a love story, paranormal elements of vampires and alchemists, and many funny moments. You will find a lot of paranormal romance novels for teens nowadays, but this book is very different from anything else you would find. Even though it has the common vampire human forbidden romance, it is written differently from others. The characters have strong independent voices shown throughout the book; you start to feel as if you know each character personally. The main character, Sydney, is relatable and really evolves in each chapter. At the beginning of the book Sydney is very negative and guarded, but by the end she starts to become more positive and outgoing. You can see Sydney’s outlook on life change page by page. The title of the novel captures a reader’s attention because it stands out from all other teen fiction titles. I could not put this book down. I really enjoyed this novel and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

Awesome for any Vampire Academy fan. (slight spoiler alert:) Although Rose isn't the main character, Adrian (and Abe) sort of make up for it. ^.^ Plus in someways Sydney is hilarious...

I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the VA series, but it was a good, quick read. It followed a very similar trajectory as the first book in the VA series, and that made the twists and turns quite predictable. But Sydney was a good narrator and it was interesting to have a different perspective on Adrian.

The Alchemists are interesting, and there is some nice development of characters like Jill and Eddie.

Sydney is a teenage Alchemist, a human bound to protect other humans from vampires, whether they're the comparatively normal Moroi or the pure-evil Strigoi vampires. Sydney's been on a sort of job suspension after aiding and abetting former criminal Rose Hathaway of the Vampire Academy series, but now the Alchemists need Sydney's talents. Jill Dragomir, Queen Lissa Dragomir's half-sister, is in danger of being killed and the best way to keep Jill safe is to put her in a human boarding school--with Sydney posing as her older sister. Sydney's a consummate professional and she has some mild compassion for the Moroi, but living in such close quarters with a vampire isn't going to be easy after she's spent her whole life viewing vamps as abominations. The job is even trickier because she's working near Keith, a slimy Alchemist with a personal vendetta against her. Add to that, Jill's enigmatic friend Adrian Ivashkov is complicating matters, and their nice human boarding school is harboring its own host of secrets

I changed my mind, he said, I'll take you up on helping me get a job. I want something entertaining he said. He thought some more. "and I want to make lots of money - but do as little work as possible" - Adrian to Sydne
