Summary
Add a SummaryLegend is a book about a post-apocalyptic world with a ruthless government( the Republic). The government wants to separate the strong from the weak so they have every kid take a Trial to see if they are good to keep around. It follows two 15 year olds who are on different sides. One is a girl named June who is a Trial and Military Prodigy and who's brother has been recently murdered. The other is a Boy who is on the run. He causes trouble with the Republic and is Wanted. In the end they find that they are working together for the same thing.
Legend tells the story of a two remarkable 15-year-olds, Day and June, living on West cost of the United States now known as The Republic. This book instantly reminded me of Aladdin because Day is from a very poor area of The Republic and steals from the rich to help out his family and community. June on the other hand, has grown up in one of the wealthiest areas and has everything she could ask for and a secure future. Their paths suddenly cross after June's brother is murdered during a hospital break-in attempt by Day. The Republic's military uses June's thirst for revenge and has her track Day and bring him to justice. However, June soon finds out her safe world has not been what it appeared to be at all.
In 2130, the Republic rules the western part of post-apocalyptic America and grooms their most promising young into soldiers. One of their elite is fifteen-year-old June, a military prodigy and the only person to score a perfect 1500 at the Trials. On the opposite side of town, fifteen-year-old Day lives on the streets and fights injustice on his own terms. His remarkable ability to make the Republic look bad has landed him on the Republic’s most wanted list. When a new strain of the plague appears, Day’s brother is infected and his family is quarantined. Since only the privileged can afford the luxury of medicine, Day’s family has no choice but to let the plague take its course. In a desperate attempt to secure a vial of the vaccine for his younger brother, Day breaks into the laboratory at the local hospital. However, things go terrible wrong and Day is pursued by Republic Captain Iparis, June’s brother. When Captain Iparis is found dead, Day is the prime suspect. Vowing to bring her brother’s killer to justice, June plans a covert operation to flush out Day. While undercover, June meets a mysterious young man who saves her from an enraged mob of gamblers. As she discovers his true identity and the Republic’s dark secrets, June must make a decision that will change her life forever. Grades 8-12, 305 pages

Add a CommentI really enjoyed reading this book...cant wait to read The Prodigy!
Often I hunt high and low for a movie to satisfy a particular craving I sometimes get: I want a good action story that will sweep me up in the excitement and tension and fill me with adrenaline without turning my brain to mush. I don't think of that as a particularly hard standard to meet, but I find surprisingly few movies that do so because too often explosions and chases mean everything else about the movie is dumb. --- This book, however, totally satisfied that craving. I had fun, couldn't put it down, and wasn't left feeling like I had lowered my IQ to do so. --- I debated for a bit how to rate this, and scanned through some of the other reviews here as I did so. Many of the three- and four-star ones say something along the lines of, "I had an awesome time reading this, but . . . " But it's not a great literary book, but the characters aren't deeply developed, but it's not unique, etc. And they're right, if I were to judge this book purely on its literary merits, I wouldn't give it five stars. But (here's my "but"), I'm not a literary reviewer, just someone who loves reading and recommending books, so my primary consideration in rating a book is the experience I had with it (and the experience I expect potential other readers to have), and my experience with this one was a good time. I was swept away in the fun and didn't have any hangover later--this may be candy, but it's good candy. --- If that's what you're looking for, this is an excellent option.
This was a great book! I loved it. Its probably one of my favorite books.
Fast paced, dystopian world that vaguely reminded me of the movie "Equilibrium" with Christian Bale. This most likely had to do with the military society that is described in the novel. I wasn't completely convinced of the romance between the two main characters, but I do look forward to reading the sequel.
Fast paced, good characters, distopia. Looking forward to more from this author!
a very good book but there was a bit two much romance but other than that it was a good read
Altair Ibn-la Ahad is the true killer of the author.
I loved this book it!! I couldnt put it down after reading it thats how addicting it was. Out of all the dystopian world novels that i have read I think this one is one of my all time favorites. I would definitely reccomend reading this book. I cant wait to get the next one! Also if you liked the Divergent series you will definitely like this book
