Captain America was really awesome in the Avengers (the first Marvel movie I've watched), and he is my dad's favorite superhero. Now, after seeing this movie (and the Winter Soldier; please see my review on that), I can see why. Loki is my favorite Marvel character of ALL (HE. IS. AWESOME. <3<3<3), and Thor is my favorite member of the Avengers, and I know, I know, he gets a lot of hate and all, but I may have to change to Captain America. But I love Thor too. XD Anyway, back to the movie. It was very good; I loved seeing Steve's determination to join the army, even when his best friend (Bucky) didn't exactly think it was a good idea. I also liked how the movie connected the original Captain America idea (comics, etc.) to the movie. Plus, it was interesting seeing Iron Man's dad (Mr. Howard Stark in this case). Plus, the man who played Johann Schmit (who I recognized as Elrond from LOTR; LOVE THOSE MOVIES!!) was VERY good. He was ruthless and cruel and passionate and scary. AND PEGGY. Another great kick-butt female character. :D A thumbs up to this excellent movie.

I LOVE CHRIS EVANS. That aside, this movie is woven into the Marvel Cinematic Universe which is slightly different than that of the Comic Books so for those hardcore readers, this may be a little different than what you are used to. As for visual effects and overall entertainment I thought this was quite good. I thought the sequel to this was also good and sets up the Avengers 2 nicely. Whenever watching superhero movies always stay until all the credits have finished to ensure you see the extra scene that will set up the next movie.

I was prepared to mock and hate this, not being a "Captain America" type of person, but I really enjoyed it in spite of my prejudices. It's not just a hunk in tight pants, and it wasn't overly moral or juvenile or loud. I will look for the sequel now.

Great telling of the story of Steve Rogers, a ninety pound weakling who enlists in the army and unbeknownst to him is soon selected in an experiment to create the ultimate Super soldier. Upon being injected, Rogers becomes Captain America, the champion and defender of the United States. My favorite was Hugo Weaving as the sinister Red Skull. This was the best Captain America film to come along in a while as the 1990 Matt Sallinger version is rarely available. And yes this was followed by a sequel.

I've really warmed to this movie after a couple of viewings, I think it can even crack my top ten of comic book inspired films. Sure, the war-within-a-war plot is kind of cheesy and the language and technology used completely ludicrous, but that's the whole point: a heroic re-imagining of humanity's darkest days. Also, the Chris Evans' "transformation" effect is one of the most memorable I've seen on screen, and the supporting cast is solid, particularly the always amazing Stanley Tucci and Hugo Weaving. Thor may still be my favourite Avenger, but Captain America may now be my favourite "Avengers" prequel.

In March 1942, Nazi officer Johann Schmidt and his men invade Tønsberg, Norway, to steal a mysterious Tesseract[a] possessing untold powers. Meanwhile, in New York City, Steve Rogers is rejected for World War II military duty because of various health and physical issues. While attending an exhibition of future technologies with his friend Bucky Barnes, Rogers again attempts to enlist. Overhearing Rogers' conversation with Barnes about wanting to help in the war, Dr. Abraham Erskine allows Rogers to enlist. He is recruited in the Scientific Strategic Reserve as part of a "super-soldier" experiment under Erskine, Col. Chester Phillips, and British agent Peggy Carter. Phillips is unconvinced by Erskine's claims that Rogers is the right person for the procedure, but relents after seeing Rogers commit an act of self-sacrificing bravery. The night before the treatment, Erskine reveals to Rogers that Schmidt underwent an imperfect version of the procedure and suffered side-effects.
