An exquisite book! A must read. Beautiful story and beautifully written. Heart wrenching. Once you get to page 145 the story picks up steam and pulls you in. Thought provoking. Best novel I've read in ages. Will watch for her second novel for sure.
Slwo at times, but towards the end I couldn't put it down. Lost of interweaving themes about family, loss, etc. amongst al the characters. I thought it was well written.
BOO TO NEGATIVE COMMENTS. WONDERFUL READ.
One of the best novels I have read in a long time.
I had a hard time putting this book down. Contrary to some of the comments stating that the book is slow at times, I did not find this to be true. The authors does describe well the job of lighthouse keeper which is an interesting historical description of a job lost to technology. You become easily attached to the main characters, Tom, his wife Izzie and their daughter Lucy. I will say no more. This Heather's pick was a good one.
A hauntingly beautiful story. Choices based on love that can't be undone. The certainty that directions we take can result in terrible pain for others. Highly recommended. Give yourself as much time as possible because it is a story that I couldn't stop reading.
An enjoyable read. Hard to imagine it is her first novel. You are cheering for all of the characters and wanting them all to win. Though we know right from wrong, who knows what one would do until you are in that situation. Valuable lessons in this sentence from the novel. QUOTE: You only have to forgive once. This debut novel written by Australian author M. L. Stedman is a wonderful story about right and wrong. Lighthouse keeper, Tom Sherbourne brings his new bride Isabel to the isolated but beautiful island of Janus Rock off the west coast of Australia. At first their joy knows no bounds. Four years later though we see a different Isabel, a young woman defeated by four miscarriages, each time her hope for a child dashed. Into this scene comes a mysterious shipwreck – a boat washes ashore with a dead man and a living baby. Isabel convinces herself and Tom that the infant is a gift from God. The carefully crafted story that follows is a heart wrenching morality tale with a cliff hanging ending. I highly recommend you read Light Between Oceans. 4 star rating Written by CMM
Its alright.... I saw all the good reviews and I just went to buy it that was a big mistake I mean it's good but it's really slow and it makes you lose focus like I liked it but I didn't like how slow it was you could kind of predict what's going to happen...
