This book was amazing! The beginning was a little slow, but once you deep into the story, it's like you can'y stop reading it. It was absolutely amazing. To be honest, I cried at the end. It gave me so much feels and I was crying half sad and half happy tears for our main character Seraphina.

I don't know how I missed this one when it was first released, but this was great. It has got to be one of the best examples of world-building in a fantasy book that I've ever read--everything feels simultaneously fresh and new, and yet also totally familiar, as if this world really existed. So impressive. Furthermore, it's a take on dragons and dragon-lore unlike anything I've ever read before, and the heroine, Seraphina, is smart, and real, and so, so great. The very subtle romantic subplot is handled with a deft touch, too, and every word in this book feels like it was chosen with care. Wonderful.

Slow to get into, but absolutely wonderfully. One of the best examples of world building I've ever had the pleasure of diving into.

An absolutely fabulous, unique, and well written novel. Although it is a teen novel, adults will definitely enjoy it as well (I certainly did)! I would recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy.

Really awesome book! It took me a few chapters to get into it, but once I did, I could not stop reading. I like the dragons in this book, because they're so different from dragons in other books, and they also made Goredd a really interesting kingdom. It is written in a way that you feel as if you are there with the characters, which definitely added to the amazingness of this book. Seraphina is amazing, and is one of my favourite main characters I've read about in a while.

(Christine -- It is evidently named Shadow Scale -- March 10th 2015 is the alledged publication date! The link: http://rachelhartmanbooks.com/2013/11/02/the-sequel/ . I am eagerly looking forwards to it!!)

Initially I detested Seraphina, as a twelve-year-old newly reading Young Adult. A word to the wise, there are too many swears and too much innuendo for a new reader of the Young Adult genre! However, 'tis easy to ignore.

Now some time later, I find myself loving it; wondering how a book which I previously hated could have such jurisdiction of my emotions (I teared up and smiled more than once); and delighted in the rich world and complex characters. And therein lies a fault: It is a little too rich. Rich to the point of abject confusion!
If one pays attention, it is no great disaster....

Essentially it is heartwrenching, complicated, deep, emotional, many more things AND entirely unique. Plus it has approx. sixty characters.

Where's the second one? There are many hints to one..... A good book, a bit slow in the beginning though.

In a world where dragons roam and walk amongst humans, in human form called saarantras. In such a world where dragons can go unnoticed, and still harbor such awesome powers, tensions between dragons and humans rise as the fortieth anniversary of their great treaty approaches.
