Add a CommentThe title and subtitle of this book are misleading. Unfortunately, the book is not about scientific concepts that will improve your thinking. If it were, I could use it. Then maybe I'd be smart enough to understand what this book is about. In reality, the book is a collection of brief essays written by so-called really smart people who are answering the cryptic question, "What scientific concept will improve everybody's cognitive toolkit?" The question is copied verbatim. Apparently there is one and only one scientific concept that will improve everybody's cognitive toolkit. Ironically, the book presents something like 150 essays in response to the question, and surprisingly each of them is different. So, at best one person got the answer correct. Also, I don't even know what a cognitive 'toolkit' is supposed to be. Like I said, I'm just not smart enough to figure this book out. I really do need the book that this one pretended to be--the one that will make me smarter.
Contains approximately 150 different essays from the topic question: What is the one thing that would improve the cognitive tool kit. Each author responds with their opinion. Definitely worth reading. Best to read in short bursts so give yourself some time.
Hilarious, a book which claims to make one smarter, with an introduction with America's biggest douchebag, David Brooks!!! Seriously, I think I'll pass.....and hope in the country where the national religion is the devout worship of ignorance, most Americans by this time finally realize what all those "think tanks" (or more properly, skank factories) are really about .....
Best for very short term reading -- each essay is just a few pages offering a main thought (usually) worth contemplation. Not good for reading at a stretch -- just like it's not good to stuff different flavored morsels in your mouth and try to chew them all at once.
James119 sums this one up perfectly; a terrific commuting book.
A fine feast of bite-sized food for thought, with lots of great additions to anyone's cognitive toolkit.
