We all know the storyline pretty well by now. The pretty little liars do something bad, and then "A" founds out about it and threatens the liars with it. What's new? Perhaps the most fascinating lie could be the one we already knew, the lie that started it all. "Ali's Pretty Little Lies", a prequel to the "Pretty Little Liars" series. Before "A", there was Alison DiLaurentis, the girl who the readers only know through memories and flashbacks of the liars. This is a story like no others, for this goes back to the night where she was murdered, her last thought and her perspective on the whole event. It was only after finishing reading this book, that I realized why she is the "It" girl that the liars had all admired and dreamt to be with. She's Ali, and she's truly fabulous. It was a wonderful idea to give "Alison" a voice, to know her side of the story since she is the whole center point of the story, the reason why it all got started in the first place. I have been a hard-core fan of the "Pretty Little Liars" series for a long time, and was it a breath of fresh air when finally it wasn't Emily, Spencer, Aria, or Hannah whose side we're hearing from! "Alison" to me has always been such a vibrant, mysterious character. She was described as the queen bee of Rosewood, the girl who was not afraid to do whatever it was to get what she wanted, the girl who I believed had a vulnerable side to her. She was cruel, and often used her friends' secrets to blackmail them into doing things they didn't want to do. Still, I had a feeling that maybe there's more to her than skin-deep, that maybe she truly liked the liars and had reasons for the thing she did. Finally, on January 2, 2013, the answer to my prayers came! This book was the best one Sara Shepard had ever composed, there were so many reasons for the answered questions in the series, so many details and background added to important flashbacks. Plus with "Alison" 's sassy and fierce voice as the main narrator, it was the cherry on top. It begin by telling the readers that once upon Alison and Courtney were best friends, until Alison started to get extremely jealous of her twin sister. She would torture Courtney and put the blame on her. As a result, their parent thought Courtney was mentally ill, so they sent her off and Alison was happy. Courtney, "Ali", was never really the crazy one, it was Alison all along. One day during her visit back home, Courtney finally saw her chance at a normal life. She pretended to be Alison by talking to her sister's classmates and her parents also mistaken the real Alison for her. She had became "Alison". But from their things begin spiraling out of control all leading up to her tragic end. Her pretty little lies that led to her death. By the end, I didn't want her to die. Because I know how bad she had it and she just wanted a normal life. She wanted to be out of the hospital and be herself, not Alison, not crazy Courtney, but the real her. I felt powerless and hopelessness for her because I knew what her fate was. If only the liars could read this book, they'd be so happy to know that "Ali" did love them. No matter what she said, they were her precious friends.

Excellent book! It really takes you into the minds of the two, letting you delve deeper into the mystery revolving the night of the end-of-seventh-grade sleepover, contradicting what you thought you already knew. I honestly think this was one of the best books in the series- the twists and connections made to the other books were shocking and brilliant. A must-read for PLL fans!

Wow, wow, wow!! This really explains what happened with Real Ali and Fake Ali (Courtney). It takes you back to when Courtney and Ali switched places and Real Ali went to the mental hospital instead of Courtney. Very well written! It takes you to the very end of Fake Ali's life...this is by far a must read in the Pretty Little Liars series!
