The adventures of Lydia Bennet are audacious, yes, and through the first-person narrative one can see how a such a vapid character can advance in the world with nothing going for her but a willful blindness to any considerations for others. But though the author does a marvelous job of recreating the voice of Jane Austen's anti-heroine, Lydia Bennet remains hugely unlikeable.
