I love Simms Taback! He stays true to the traditional song in which there is talk of her dying. The books is perhaps not for the squeamish, fearful, or gentler folks among us, but Taback handles it artfully and humorously with added rhyming text throughout that questions the woman's choices and with a clear moral at the end. Of course, the moral of the story is: Don't eat a horse!

Very funny book. Silly and highly entertaining. Great for story time

Not for young children unless you're prepared to have a chat about death...lots of talk about dying and she dies at the end

Very cute illustrations accompany this familiar childhood song. The best part though are the side comments made by the animals the old lady has swallowed.
