This sounded so promising. I watched the movie Witness years ago and was willing to be seduced again by a similar story, but Karen Harper is not a skilled writer -- despite being billed as a NYTimes bestselling author. I couldn't get through the first chapter. I had difficulty picturing what was going on, and I didn't believe it. That kills it for me. Sorry.
