The dead and buried means something forgotten, something gone forever. But that clearly doesn't seems to be the case in this story. Enter Kayla Sloane the Queen Bee of your average high school who just loved to make your life miserable, so it's no surprise that even in death there's no rest for this young lady...especially if it involved a murder. "The Dead and Buried" is a YA fiction written by Kim Harrington, it mixes the supernatural elements with high school dramas and equipped with gripping fast-pace action. Mean girls are bad enough in real life, but wait until you meet one in death!
Jade is thrilled to be starting school where there’s more than thirty students in her whole grade. Growing up she lived in a rural town, and longed to be in a big city and school. Somehow, her dream has come true. Even the house her family has moved into seems too good to be true: new, big and beautiful. Jade Kelley, unlike so many of our other heroines, is very happy with her family's recent move. She was looking for a fresh start and had nothing to lose. Well, that is right up until her little brother confesses to seeing a girl-ghost in his room. Jade soon discovers a dangerous secret that spirals out of control and endangers everyone she loves. Her family got such a great deal on the house because a girl, Kayla Sloane, had fallen to her death on the stairs a few months earlier. In death Kayla sends Jade a message -a message loud and clear - that Kayla didn't fall, she was pushed. And if Jade doesn't figure out who pushed her, someone Jade cares about will "fall" too. As Jade plays detective in her new school, the killer will do anything to ensure the truth never comes out even if it means another slaughter. Everyone in her school is a potential suspect, they all adored or should I say they all hated or feared the Queen Bee... But the murderer is closer than she thinks. Driven by a desperate ghost and a killer on both ends, Kayla must finds the truth to Kayla's death before she too "falls" to her death.
If you are expecting "American Horror Story" kind of scary than this is not the right place for you, but on the contrast if you are looking for a sweet ghost story that has all the right high school clichés (mean girls, love triangle, new girl) then you are in for a treat. Jade is overall a very enjoyable protagonist, unlike most female characters whom I find cringe-worthy, she is strong, independent and loyal with just the right amount of smart and sassy. She doesn't just swoon when a cute guy starts paying her some attention - she cares more about the person than their reputation. She was never careless or ignorant and she knew how to stand up for herself and her friend. The mystery had me staying up all night trying to figure the killer, and even though the big reveal wasn't mind-twisting or anything like that, it was definitely someone out-of-ordinary, at least in Jade's agenda. The title of this book is "The Dead and Buried" giving off that sinister feeling, it does a good job in drawing in audiences because no horror fans could ever resist that title, I know I tried. There are times when you just want to sit by a fireplace, munch on some delicious cookies, and read a good book and I believe this novel is perfect for the scenario.

This book was a pretty good ghost story. Finally, a heroine who is realistic- and because of that I connected with her instantly! I'd recommend this book to anyone looking for exactly what the book says it gives: thrill, horror, and romance.

Holds your interest throughout.

This book is SO similar to this other book that I read. It is called New Girl and its by Paige smthng (I don't remember her last name). Either way, this book is almost EXACTLY the same thing. New Girl was AMAZING and it was one of my favorite books. I did not think anything can compare. Well this book is almost the same thing, but 5000000 times better! At elast here there is actual romance not the guy leaving her in the end! (Stupid Max) and this book is more interesting due to the whole ghost/murder thing (stupid girl commited suicide in New Girl). Anyways, love love LOVE this book.
