This is good, but marginally less good than the prequel.

This delightful, dreamy sequel to The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland is just as wondrous and surreal as the first book, but a touch darker and a smidge more affecting (at least for me). The author gives us hard truths about life, but wraps them up in mystery and wonder, covering them in caramel, roses, engine grease and glitter. A worthy companion to Alice in Wonderland and The Phantom Tollbooth.

This is maybe a smidgen less COMPLETELY AMAZING than The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making. So, still totally awesome. The whimsy, the vocabularly, the amazing way Valente has with words... it's so magical and adorable and awesome.

Fans of the first book will love this sequel. The narrative voice remains a delight, weaving the rich tapestry that makes up Fairyland and Fairyland-Below. September is still a charming heroine, who is starting to grow up, and starting to come into a new, fresh heart. A great fairy tale for all ages.

In my own opinion, this book wasn't as well written as the previous one, but I loved it all the same. At times the plot seemed to drag a little, but the concepts and ideas and twists woven into the story were wonderfully executed and kept me reading.

Friends can go odd on you and do things you don't like, but that doesn't make them strangers.
