We read this to our first and third grade boys. I feel that I needed to explain a lot to them, and as the book was written in 1978, some phrasing was outdated, BUT they were able to keep up and enjoyed using their deductive reasoning skills to figure out "who dun it". I was equally captivated and tempted to finish it on my own after they went to bed many nights!

This is one of my favorites from when I was in grade school. I still have my original copy, which now is held together with oodles of tape on the spine. It's a great mystery tale with lots of humor and a long list of wacky characters. Even though I know the ending, I still discover something new each time. Highly recommended for fans of the Lemony Snicket books, or adults who want to rediscover a fun J book.
