Add a CommentAmazing book......Tolstoy was simply a wonderful writer. Can't wait for the movie adaptation starring Keira Knightly!
I just finished Anna Karenina. I started it in late June, picking it up from time to time (923 pages is a lot). I have never felt this way after finishing a book. I feel as if I am saying goodbye to the main characters, regarding them as I would people. This book covers it all: deception, estrangement, confusion, desperation, death, but also revelation, solace, joy, hope, and love. Despite its lengthiness, it merits real insight into the human condition. Leo Tolstoy is a wonderful writer.
I listened to this audiobook on my Talking Book and Braille System digital player. The story is marvelous. Set in Russia of a century and a half ago, Anna is an unhappy wife who falls in love with a man not her husband. The subsequent affair ruins her relationship with her husband and causes him to divorce her. The story has approximtely 12 character sets. The writer paints the mind, body, and spirit of the characters and gives accurate descriptions of the culture at that time. The interaction of the characters in the story is so well established that it is as though I have met and know the people myself. This is one of the best classics I have ever read.
How can you not recommend Anna Karenina?
