My students were reluctant at first but after chapter 5 they were won over. The ESL students had difficulty understanding some of the nuances so we needed a lot of time for vocabulary and discussion.

This book was great!! I read the whole thing in less than 2 days because it was hard to put down. I finished the whole series quickly and it is still one of my favourite series. :)

Luke is in a predicament because the govenment doesn't allow more than 2 children per family. He loves his family but is bored by constantly hiding. It is easy to understand his feelings and his excitement when he finds another third child. Interesting plot and good writing.

The first in the Shadow Children series. I gobbled up all seven of them in just a few days- they are highly readable and enjoyable. These are great for adults and children- they might be a good series for reluctant readers because each novel is short and suspenseful. Great!

Luke Garner is a third child in a society that only allows 2 or less children per family. He is doing his best to hide, and conceal his identity. He is ok with it, until his parents start to become really overprotective. The woods are cut down, and the government built "Baron" homes. He starts to think there is more to his life than hiding, especially when he finds another third child, who is courageous and wants to change everything. A story that will dramactically change, in a good way.

"Haddix has outdone herself once again with this outstanding thriller, only to change the readers minds. You won't be able to put it down"
