I loved this book! It was such a fun and enjoyable read and I loved the characters. I'm not sure if the author intended it to be funny but I really appreciated the laughs. I was surprised at how "normal" it was to have vampires as part of day-to-day life. I can't wait to read the next in the series.

G&M recommended a later one - will start with the first. Was good, nice spin on a vampire theme, casual characters and dialogue.

I will comment here on the entire octology, as I borrowed the 8-novel ebook. This is a fun and easy read, and one of the trashiest novels I've thoroughly enjoyed. A telepathic human barmaid becomes enmeshed in the world of super-naturals, vampires, weres, fairies, etc. I expected some resolution to poor Sookie's over-loaded romance problems, but the author really left herself a lot of opportunities for another few novels.

I finally found the perfect boook to read around the pool this summer! True eye candy, but as such I can't say it's great literature or terribly thought-provoking. You can bet I will be reading the others in the series though. As a big fan of True Blood, I have been on the fence about reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels. I highly recommend Mark Blankenship's blog in the Huffington Post (Sucker Punch), and as he has pointed out, it is nice not having the knowledge of what transpires in the novels as we watch what goes on in Bon Temps. So I've decided I will read behind so as not to spoil things for myself. The start of the novel conjured up the exact images of the first episode and I couldn't get over how well the writers and actors did. As the novel progressed though there were a lot of differences too. Makes me want to watch season 1 all over again...

I don't love this book but I did manage to read through quickly without counting how many pages I had left.

Very nicely written. I liked Sookie as the protagonist, she's spunky and interesting. I would have liked a bit more of Bill and Eric, but over all: excellent.
