We’re thrilled to welcome Amanda Peters for an online discussion of her bestselling novel, The Berry Pickers, and her tender short story collection, Waiting for the Long Night Moon. Drawing from her Mi’kmaq heritage, Peters explores themes of family, grief, and identity through the haunting story of Ruthie, a young girl who vanishes while her family is picking blueberries in Maine, and Joe, her brother, who is forever changed by her disappearance.
Meanwhile, Norma, raised in an affluent but emotionally distant household, is plagued by dreams that feel more like memories. As she grows older, she begins to suspect a hidden truth about her past. The Berry Pickers is a moving portrait of race, love, and the enduring search for belonging and forgiveness.
This program is part of the Santa Clara County Library District's Native American Heritage Month.
