Adult Book Discussion: Yellow Face by R.F. Kuang

7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Cupertino Library

Description

In March, the Cupertino Book Discussion Group will talk about R.F. Kuang's novel Yellowface,(2023) A satirical but sharp critique of both the publishing industry and the racism of both publishers and the reading public.

Struggling novelist June Hayward is celebrating her fellow Yale alumna Athena Liu's lucrative new movie deal, when Athena chokes to death in a freak accident. June, deeply jealous of Athena's far greater literary success, steals the mostly finished manuscript of Athena’s next novel and re-writes parts of it before getting it published under the pseudonym Juniper Song. Finally enjoying the literary success she’d envied before, June finds the price of borrowed literary glory is steep, but despite her guilty conscience, she's ready to protect her newfound success at all costs.

The Adult Book Discussion Group meets on the third Wednesday  of each month at 11 am and on the third Thursday at 7pm in Room 201B. Adults of all ages are welcome. All meetings are sponsored by the Friends of the Cupertino Library.
