Ballet and war: How San Francisco’s history inspired the novel The World at Home
In this presentation, local author Ginny Kubitz Moyer will discuss her latest novel, The World at Home. A coming-of-age story set in 1944 San Francisco, The World at Home follows Irene Cleary, a young dressmaker, as she discovers love, loss, and the power of her own creativity in the bustle of a wartime city. Learn about how Moyer researched and recreated various aspects of San Francisco life during the war, including its USO clubs and the San Francisco Ballet’s first-ever American production of The Nutcracker, which took place on Christmas Eve, 1944.
