I think Ms. George's editor should take her aside and have a serious chat. Clearly the author can write and I have read many of her books but the non-stop, irrelevant chatter for hundreds and hundreds of pages could have been eliminated. …

I wish I'd read all of the comments that people left on this site before I read the book, because I may not have wasted my time with it. I was very disappointed with the ending, and the character of Deborah is becoming very annoying and…

i absolutely agree with "missmiss". george has lost her touch. linley is becoming quite uninteresting, common, unrefined, almost vulgar; and havers' appearance is so totally exagerated and so often described it's becoming dull. yes, the…

Ms. George seems to have lost her touch. In "Believing the Lie" she seemed to want to include every sub-culture that she could: alcoholics, child porn., messed up kids, a nympho. mother, bisexuals and gays. Granted we are…

Slower on the up take than her other books. Too much nattering and not enough story.

I love the inpector Lynley movies and this was the first book with him that I have read. Over all I found it disappointing compared to the movies which I think are great - book I would give a less thatn glowing rating. It is too long…

This book could easily withstand a 300 page edit and the thin plot would still hold up. What a disappointment! Trite, immature characters and the suggestion of serious child neglect blithely 'fixed' by having the damaged children adopted…

I didn't enjoy this book nearly as much as her earlier ones. Too much melodrama with the mystery. And I absolutely agree that her characters were "jumping the shark". Tommy not only covering for an alcoholic supervisor, but having an…

This is the first time I've read a book by this author. I found the book rather long and boring at times, but at other times quite delightful. I will read another of her books for sure...especially the ones that involved Det. Lynley. The…

Seemed to go on a bit long, but her usual great character development.

Great, as hers usually are. I hope she's fast at work on the next one.

Ms George always satisfies. What more can I say.

I enjoyed reading this book immensely even though it is too long. Look forward to the next book with Havers. Found Deborah character over the top in this book. I know there will be a "next" book and can hardly wait!!

No doubt a long book but the reading is smooth and time goes quickly. She really ups the tension toward the end, switching between seriously dangerous scenes and two different situations. Well done and a great read for me!

Well even a "weak" Elizabeth George novel is better than most else out there. Love the Barbara bits, but I thought a previous commenter's comment that "Deborah's 'girl detective' antics are ridiculous beyond belief, and the idiot plot /…

Throughout this book, the lesson that repeats itself is be careful what you wish for. The actions that you take to achieve an end can have devastating effects to those around you. Our poor inspector has to look into an accidental death…

This book is much better than the last one. (The less seen of Isabelle Ardery, the better.) The plot is good, the characters are interesting, and there is every kind of family issue one can imagine. It is long, but reads quickly.

24 hours ago I thought "Look at the size of that thing. I probably won't have time to finish before it's due back. Should I bother?" Then I thought "Eew, I forgot about Tommy going to bed with That Woman." Then "there must be something…

Yes it's a bit long and meanders but still a much better read than most of what's out there. Hope it ends up being televised because it would condense stunningly and the Lake District scenery ......... to say noting of the tidal bore…

In her latest book Elizabeth George has continued to transcend the murder mystery genre. She has set new heights as a raconteur and keen observer of today’s society that rival authors can surely only dream of achieving. Her familiar…

I agree with many of the comments - this was an immense book that I couldn't wait to read, but got tired of Deborah's 'girl detective' antics as someone described them. Agreed with Labetenoir the ending was annyoing b/c of a…

Amazed at the size of the book, where there is no real crime to solve. I was annoyed when I realized that someone was going to die at the end because of miscommunication and an out of control character. I think someone had to die to end…

I found this book was better than the last Lynley (This Body of Death) which I didn't like at all. However, I would not say it was one of the author's best ones and it definitely needed some editing as it was far too long.
