When downloaded, I am taken to audio book Apps not Watch movie Apps. Please help or fix. I want to Stream the movie, not listen to Audio Book.
I simply love the book that this movie is based on; it is beautiful literature. Though the movie is good, you kind of have to consider it to be its own story. I can tell that they changed the story to be more interesting to those who hate reading. As is mostly the case the book was better. The movie is enjoyable, but not like the book.
Kind of so-so. Might be okay for teens interested in sci-fi. It just wasn't compelling enough to hold my interest.
Bland and goes from palatable to uh wtf umm k no, that’s just dumb. DO NOT ‘GIVER
I actually enjoy this movie. The movie reminded me of the books The Chrysalids and 1984 which I had to read for high school English. I also liked the way the director used the black and white and then color to reveal the difference between living to just exist or living because you take risk and actually enjoy living. The movie also reveals about how absolute power creates absolute corruption. The head women of that society wanted absolute power.
Honestly, not the best: reminds me of the monotonous, continuous stream of futuristic , post apocalyptic, sci fi movies like, MAZE RUNNER sequels, and also vaguely parallel to hunger games without the kills. Very young casts in these similar films. Hunger games was still quite exciting n entertaining with special effects n good costumes. Not for mature audiences seeking more content - dull or flat - not a recommended must-see. Thx.
I had expected this. A slow-paced philosophical film with some unrealistic moments thrown in. The ending was too abrupt and confusing. It was okay overall, I liked the acting, but could've been better. It has motivated me to read the book, though!
This movie is not very good! There are good actors, but the plot has no substance. It was extremely slow and unrealistic.
An interesting sci fi movie. It was watchable. The one thing that saved it was the acting. Set in a perfect setting, and controlled by the elders, of sorts. No huge 'breakouts', like in other sci fi films, "Planet Of The Apes", but still watchable, and an interesting concept.
Weird, science fiction type movie. Watched only a few minutes and ejected the dvd.
This was a pretty good science fiction story and was a lot like the movie Pleasantville, literally, with the colour theme.
This type of post apocalyptic Sci-Fi movie has been done many times before & better versions (i.e. Logan's Run & Soylent Green in the 70's & more recently The Hunger Games) This version seemed watered down & flat...but if their target audience was kids & preteens ...then this movie was appropriately not too scary & not too much of anything ...but for adults it might be a bit too wishy-washy and tame.
Its a wonderful teen movie. I haven't read the book but I don't know why so many reviewers felt disappointed. Creating an Utopian world is always a great theme in sci-fi stories, and this one shares a lot of common goals that a perfect world should have. Love Merle Streep as the villain; I want to believe what she's saying. All the actors are exciting to watch. There's a little bit of Hunger Game ideas and feels thrown in. I wish I've read the book when I was a teen. I highly recommend this to people of all ages.
Good (not fantastic) adaptation of the book. They changed a few things, but DID answer some questions I had after reading the book. As a new mother, I found the scenes with the baby very hard to watch! But I knew it was coming.
Don't judge a book by its movie! I definitely preferred the book, and was thrilled to learn it was the beginning of a short series: The Giver, Gathering Blue, Messenger, and Son, each title more engaging than the last.
This worthwhile sci fi flick is only marred by a unbelievable conclusion. The writer and film producers did a good job building this fantasy world until the silly, illogical end.
I've never read the book. This movie has some elements that remind me of Gattaca and Pleasantville.
The movie is one of the best. I haven't even read the book yet, but I can safely bet on it being a masterpiece. Being a abortion(murder of helpless babies) hater, this movie is great and every person who hates abortion should watch that. I mean come on. How could you(abortionists) do this to them?
The movie was well directed and great storyline. Though they should have followed the book, I see no terrible reason why Jonas and Fiona could not love each other. It helped to show what he was doing.
Movie very highly recommended.
I enjoyed the movie very much. to compare a book to a movie is like comparing apples to grapefruit. in spite of the fruit reference, comparing the book to the movie is in fact fruitless and futile. I believe the movie stands alone and is well done and was enjoyable for me to watch. I would recommend it to anyone who's not a book snob.
The book was AWESOME!!! They just made a joke movie. Such a good book, terrible movie.
I enjoyed the setup to The Giver, but quickly the story became implausible, to the point—in the last half hour—of risibility. I mean, really, could you hike over hundreds of miles of desert and deep snow (in Utah, where presumably both exist at the same time) without food or protection with a baby in arms? That it turns into a big chase shows that the creators didn't know what to do with the potent question: what is memory, and what's the point of remembering? I felt my time had wasted.
