I knew this wasn't the book for me when I found myself skipping past pages of detailed anatomical descriptions which made no sense. Granted, the protaganist is a Forensic Anthropologist working in the Montreal Medical Examiners office but…

Normally I'd be put off by all of the clinical analysis of the bodies but the way it was presented seemed to soften the effect. Quite fascinated by the dissertation on cuts and how you can tell which type of saw was used and even the teeth…

Incredibly disturbing, I think I hated it but I also couldn't stop reading it. So I'm not sure what that means.

I found this novel too disturbing (as a woman) and thus won't read any more of her novels. Life is too short!

Much detail of autopsies, bones & their composition, how analysis is important to cause of death.

I *really* wanted this book to be the beginning of a beautiful friendship--such a long series. It really was not, alas. Enough bad decisions by the lead character to make me annoyed with her. And the author never met a simile she didn't…

Thought this series was based more on the tv show Bones and it was not. The only similarities it has are her name and that she's an anthropologist. Took me awhile to get into the book but towards the end, turned into a quick read, overall…

Agree with Pokano. this should have been written in 3rd person. Dr Brennan has a mercurial temperament. It is annoying that all the male characters are borderline chauvinists. Her relationship wit her immature daughter is marred by poor…

If you're looking for the Temperance Brennan and her colleagues of the TV show, you won't find them here. This Temperance was married once, has an adult child, and is working in Montreal. The first part of the book contains all the flaws…

Introducing Tempe Brennan, a forensic anthropologist who in can go from a sterile autopsy suite to a crime scene in search of "who dunnit".

My favorite book!! I had to buy the rest of the series and watch the TV show. Yes, it was slow at first but i couldn't put it down when it got flowing. Writing this good should not be allowed!

A huge disappointment. A meandering story with distracting segments of llama drama punctuated by graphic forensics and the grisly details of a psychopath's murders of women. Temperance stupidly puts herself in danger several times. I love…

Great start to a very interesting series. I like the characters and can get a good visualization of the story as it goes along.

Similar to the Patricia Cornwell books but Temperance Brennan is a forensic anthropologist, an expert on bones. In this first book some of her technical stuff gets a little long and boring but I like Tempe better than Kay Scarpetta. Tempe…

Amazing book. Enough to get me hooked on reading all of the "Bones" books, and watching the TV show! It's so rare to find a good mix of accurate medical information combined with an exciting, suspenseful story line. 5+ stars!!!

It always amazes me that books with writing this terrible become bestsellers. It's loaded with mixed metaphors and unnecessary verbiage. The characters are flat and not sympathetic. It's not even suspenseful until around page 350 (after…

Good thriller. There is some science as the author is a forensic anthropologist and she knows her stuff, it's interesting. Keeps you on the edge of your seat and making sure your door to the outside is locked. Some interesting thoughts…

I read this book a few years ago because I had started to watch the show Bones and found out that there were a series of books that had the same female character and was intrigued. I read it and enjoyed it immensely, not only because it…
