Nina is taken by the Population Police for "tricking them". She can't believe what has happened and still thinks about Jason, who allegedly "betrayed" her. She faces the choice of death or betraying other third children, so they could find out makers of Fake ID's.Little do they know that Nina is a third child herself. THIS BOOK HAS A REALLY UNEXPECTED ENDING.

Comment
Add a CommentI enjoyed the change in character from the other books. I predicted the ending from the beginning which was nice. It took me only one day to finish this fun read. I highly recommend!
The story is good, if a little convoluted, but I couldn't get behind Nina like I could with Luke in the first two books. I don't know if it's because they gave more of his back story, or if it's just that she wasn't as purely good as he was.
Loved this book. I liked the unexpected ending.

A book full of adventure and suspense, “Among the Betrayed” written by Margaret Peterson Haddix. With Nina, Percy, Alia, and Matthias, escape out into their dangerous world and experience escaping as a child.
This is a very interesting book because even though it’s the third book of a series (Shadow Children series), it is able to stand on its own. All the information from the previous books that are necessary to proceed on to the rest of the series are mentioned in this book. Once you’ve started reading this, it’s really tempting to just continue on and read the next ones after it. The ending of Among the Betrayed leaves you at a cliff-hanger and gives you the first few pages of the next book, Among the Barons.
In my opinion, the book was very descriptive and imaginative. While I was reading, I always kept my alert up for anything suspicious. I felt that it is important to be alert while reading this book because it is after all a mysterious and fantasy book, anything can happen. It would help us predict some things that would unravel during the book. In “Among the Betrayed,” there are many things to look out for and it’s much unexpected. I enjoyed reading this book and I really recommend for anyone to read it. It’s not a disappointing and it would leave you at the edge of your seat with all the suspense!
In the book, Nina is taken in by the population police for being accused of trying to find shadow children along with a boy who she fell in love with and betrayed her, Jason. She was taken in a jail cell where she was questioned by one of the population police and told her to work for them in exchange to spare her life. Nina was told to try and get information from the young kids who are third children in another jail cell where she would be placed. There she meets Percy, Alia, and Matthias. Nina realizes how harsh the children were treated and decided to go against the population police and run away to try and save the life of Percy, Alia, and Matthias. That’s how their adventure starts out into the world. A world where third children are forbidden, where no one can be trusted, and where the closest person to you can be your worst enemy.
