SPOILER FREE- The book was great. It was not as good as The Lightning Thief, but was still great. I love Tyson, and his introduction at the beginning is great. There is incredible action, the plot isn't as good, but the characters maybe are even a bit better. I like the concept of having to get the fleece(not a spoiler it is literally on the back of the book), and having the Sea of Monsters in the Bermuda Triangle was a great choice. Great book.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians - BOOK 2

Dec 18, 2019

I love rick Riordan. ties modern stuff and jokes with old mythology!!!!!!!!!

pretty good book even though it was one of Riordan's earlier works.

This book is a great read for those who want to dive deeper into the worlds of Greek mythology (and Percy Jackson, too, duh). This book and the whole Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is funny, and makes me wonder what'll happen next. It all feels so right, and like the author had spent many hours fine tuning this masterpiece. The world feels so alive, and it doesn't get boring after a few books (*cough, cough Whatever After books, cough, cough*). Rick Riordan sprinkles little hints about whats going on, and you can figure out whats gonna happen, but Riordan will create the scenes with unexpected additions, so it still is fun, even if you figure out whats gonna happen. What I'm trying to say, is read these beautiful, well-written books, and for goodness sakes' READ THE SERIES IN ORDER!

I overall loved this book a lot ! Rick Riordan is the bessst author!

Lord_Vad3r Aug 21, 2019

There are several things I like about the world that Riordan has created here. He's resurrected and modernized mythology. The mythology he's created has it's own mythology (Thalia's tree or how the Sea of Monsters moves with western society). I like that he made Percy the son of Poseidon (son odf Zeus would be too cliche). At some points you want to grab Percy and shake him, "don't you understand your homeless friend who can catch fireballs is different from the average teenager?????)

Anyway, this is a good selection for those middle grade kids who aren't quite ready to commit to something as heavy as Harry Potter. I liked this entry even better than the first one. You can tell Riordan has become more comfortable with his world-building and characters in this entry.

I kind of wanted to see Polyphemus marry Clarice though. . .

"The real story of the Fleece: there were these two children of Zeus, Cadmus and Europa, okay? They were about to get offered up as human sacrifices, when they prayed to save them. So Zeus sent this magical flying ram with golden wool, which picked them up in Greece and carried them all the way to Colchis in Asia Minor. Well, actually it carried Cadmus. Europa fell off and died along the way, but that's not important."

"It was probably important to her."

On Percy's last day of school, he and his friend/cyclops half-brother Tyson are attacked by giants. Annabeth appears and saves them before leaving for camp. When they arrive, Percy learns that Thalia's tree, the tree protecting the camp, has been poisoned and Chiron has been accused of poisoning and he was fired. If Thalia's tree fully dies, then the camp boarders won't be protected and more Monsters will start attacking the camp. This will continue unless they find another way to protect the camp borders or the camp will be overrun by monsters. To save the tree, a quest is given to find the Golden Fleece. Clarisse La Rue, a daughter of Ares, will lead the quest to find the Golden Fleece. Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson sneak off, not just for the Golden Fleece, but to find their friend Grover Underwood. They meet Luke on the ship, but are able to escape. They soon join with Clarisse on her quest. Her ship is destroyed passing through the Sea of Monsters and Annabeth and Percy continue their search for Grover after becoming separated from the others. After encountering the sirens and Circe, Annabeth and Percy reach the Polyphemus' cave. They are able to rescue Grover and Clarisse and Tyson helps defeats Polyphemus. They recover the fleece and head to Miami. Clarisse heads to camp and the others are captured by Luke. They are about to be killed before Chiron and the Party Ponies (other centaurs) rescue them and take them to camp. The Fleece is able to save the tree, but it also revives Thalia, whose spirit was in the tree.
