Herbalife is up much more in pre-market. Why are they up so much? 'cause carl icahn, the famed hedge fund trader Has taken out a big stake in the company. Why has he done that? It kind of seems like he's done it pretty much 'cause he hates bill ackman.
On Dec 21, 2016 Donald Trump named Carl lcahn special advisor to the president on regulatory reform

Ackman: People on wall street, it seems, Don't really care whether or not
The company is a pyramid scheme. All they really care about Is the stock price in the short term.

Michael johnson: First of all, guys, This isn't about herbalife's business model. This is about bill ackman's business model. This is blatant market manipulation. We're not a pyramid scheme. That's a bogus accusation. This is a legitimate company. We've been in business 32 years. Millions of customers around the world. Mr. Ackman's proposition That the United States will be better when herbalife is gone... The United States will be better when bill ackman's gone.

The ftc has charged herbalife With deceiving hundreds of thousands of hopeful people, who saw herbalife's promotional campaigns in english and in spanish, and signed on for what they thought was a legitimate and lucrative business opportunity. The ftc has charged that this wasn't true. That the dream portrayed by herbalife was an illusion. The vast majority of
herbalife distributors found they could make little or no money selling herbalife products. People who leased space to open a nutrition club and worked long hours, made no money, or lost money. The small minority of
herbalife distributors who did make a lot of money were paid by herbalife,
not for selling the company's products, but for buying the products themselves, and then successfully recruiting large networks of others to do the same. ...

In depth documentary on the 5-year-old on-going $1 billion bet by hedge fund manager Bill Ackman against the company Herbalife. Ackman was demonized as a vile short seller and Herbalife a payramid scheme. In the mix are those people who lost money selling Herbalife products (particularly low income immigrants promised the American Dream,) Ackman supporters, past and present Herbalife executives, its supporters (On Dec 21, 2016 Donald Trump named Carl lcahn special advisor to the president on regulatory reform) and others in both camps. My take away is that both sides have been lobbying and using public relations to win their case. The side with the much bigger pot of disposable money has won.

Latest timeline:
December 20, 2012: Bill Ackman (of Pershing Square Capital) presented a series of arguments outlining why his firm believed that Herbalife operates a "sophisticated pyramid scheme".
July 15, 2016: Herbalife agreed to a $200 million settlement with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
Nov 1, 2017: “We covered the shorts and replaced them with outright put positions,” Ackman told Reuters.
Feb 8, 2018: Herbalife (HLF) executives press legislation in Congress to make life much more difficult for investors who try to make money betting on a stock's collapse,
Feb. 28, 2018 7:21 p.m. ET
William Ackman is ending his crusade against Herbalife Ltd. HLF +6.30% , in what amounts to a bruising defeat in one of Wall Street’s longest-running, most expensive and acrimonious fights.

The activist investor has largely exited his $1 billion, five-year bet against the nutritional products company, sources familiar with the matter said.
