Great autobiographical movie of Mahatma Gandhi one of the most influential persons in the 20th century. This movie easily makes the top 10 of all times on anyone's list.

Great historical movie. Magnificent photography. Even shows that not even the great Gandhi could not stop the Muslims and Hindus from killing each other after they gained Independence from England.

Extraordinary story and excellent performances. Not the best cinemagraphic work. Good enough to watch. It is three hours long through.

Director Richard Attenborough passed away yesterday. I thought it only fitting to look up his most famous movie "Gandhi -25th Anniversary Edition" on the KCLS web site. Do you know there were no reviews for the movie. Remember it is the "25th Anniversary Edition" and no one has said if they liked or disliked the movie. Hopefully, reviews encourage other patrons to either see a movie or avoid a movie. "Gandhi" is an epic movie made by Director Richard Attenborough that has been found to be an honest portrayal of India's most significant leader. As you will find out in the movie, Gandhi would die neither wealthy nor a holder of elected office. He was a leader of his people by example. Richard Attenborough left us a fine tribute to this great leader of India. I see that KCLS has 8 copies and 21 holds at present. I encourage anyone who has not seen the film to do so. It is a masterpiece of film work of an epic story.

Well, they can't be all 4 and 5 star reviews. That's not to say this isn't a good, inspiring movie about an incredible man, but it's not without its flaws. Like most great man biopics, the central figure comes off as heroic and almost free from the usual faults of humanity. Ben Kingsley, in an Oscar winning performance, bears an uncanny resemble to Gandhi and is very good, but the character, as written, is a little one-note and despite the prominent supporting cast (Martin Sheen, John Gielgud, Candice Bergen), no one else really emerges as a complex character. The first half, which covers his lawyer days in South Africa, is the most engrossing, but it starts to drag in its final hour. The independence and partition of India is a fascinating subject, but the film doesn't do justice to it, nor to the figure of Nehru. Fun fact 1: two of the Indian actors in this also appear in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom." Fun fact 2: Daniel Day-Lewis appears as a racist thug in an early scene.

One of the best films I have seen in this year. It was entertaining and interesting. Great performances a must see for all. “Truly a really great movie worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box”.

Gandhi, witnessing two continents struggle against colonialism & refusing to succumb to colonial "English subhuman doctrine", RESURRECTED nations to fight & DEFEAT ENGLAND, proving no empire is powerful enough to conquer determined people committed to conquer their own destiny.
