I wasn't very familiar with Bruce, so thought I'd check out this compilation of his early work. It was a waste of my time because I really hated it. Igor Stravinsky said of Vivaldi: "Vivaldi didn't write 400 concertos; he wrote one concerto 400 times." That's the same way I feel about Bruce's songs --- it's the same song each time and usually even in the same key signature. On top of that, the songs are strophic, mawkish, and hyper-romantic & hyper-patriotic. There's not a whole lot of "there" there. I would guess that his main appeal is that the band performed very well on stage; i.e., they put on a good show.
