Pretty good adaptation of the Scott Smith novel. Four American tourists find themselves trapped in the Mexican jungle by an ancient evil. It favors gore over suspense, but it still has a good creepy atmosphere and a decent cast. It kinda flopped, but it's better than I thought it'd be. Don't include this on your vacation to Mexico.

When you're a fan of a genre or sub-genera you get to where you've seen everything. I've seen teleporters in Sci-Fi, I've seen intense fast moving zombies, etc etc. Being a horror fan you get to where you've seen every type of 'monster', the gore is no longer repulsive, and the shocks don't make you jump. The Ruins is the first horror film in quite a while that made me squirm, made me jolt, made me wonder how the parameters work along with how the people going up against it are going to get out.

I liked my trip to the Yucatan and visiting seven Mayan ruins,.. and I also enjoyed my second viewing of this movie.
The book is better,.. but the book is very very good.
This movie is a good rendition of its broad day-light horror. The
production values are excellent, and the acting is effective.

Ugh! The movie starts off with a slight promise, but never really delivers one. Total waste of time.

Dreck! Unbelieveable premise, and not executed with any style or subtlety. Save your time and watch "Little Shop of Horrors" for a much better experience!

Different kind of horror movie. Fairly entertaining.

Not a terrible movie. The book is much better. The movie changes a number of death scenes that I thought were more interesting in the book but all-in-all worth watching if you are into this kind of horror movie.
