It can be anything. A fanged monster that won't stay on the movie screen. Something ominous lurking in the basement. A malevolent force in a small New England town takes the shape of a clown, but It isn't clowning around. Instead, It terrifies youngsters with their innermost fears, bringing some to their untimely doom -- until a group of wily neighborhood kids fight back. Thirty years later the evil resurfaces: meaner, angrier, deadlier. And the friends who vividly remember the terrors of their youth reunite to make a desperate stand against It.

A product of its time. Considering this was a made-for-broadcast TV miniseries in the 1990's, it was pretty well done. When this series premiered on ABC in the early 90's, it scared me and everyone else my age that I knew half to death. It probably ruined the concept of clowns for an entire generation of people. Of course, the modern movie is a much better representation of the source material. Having a big budget and being able to have a full R-rating gave it a few easy advantages. But the original is still the only thing close to a family friendly (-ish, sort of, almost) PG version you can scare the younglings with. Though for the sake of the younglings and probably the clown profession, you may not want to.

Hilariously bad! Very entertaining, melodramatic, and corny. Tim Curry chews the scenery in every scene he's in. But then it goes downhill; the corny acting can be grating after a while, the effects are an insult to humanity, and the unbalanced ratio of the adults to kid scenes removes what made the book enjoyable. The book was enjoyable because the kid's acted like real kids, mostly. Here, I felt that the kid's acted more like adults, and the adults acted more like kids. Am I the only seeing this?

Pretty much exactly what one would expect of a Stephen King adaptation: the section with the kids is good, the section with the adults not so much, it's longer than it has to be (IT is more or less the same story, twice) and you probably know the ending already if you have read many of this author's books. The best part is Tim Curry; he has a gift for elevating mediocre material. This is a TV adaptation, so the production values are not high. But it is mostly without cheap jump scares and blaring "scary" music, which marred the otherwise good recent adaptation.

Yuck. I couldn’t finish it. Not sure why they remade this. Both “IT’S” are awful. Not even Tim Curry or Richard Thomas could help IT along.

MUCH better than the modern remake hands down! This classic scared me as a kid!

I just watched the new IT movie, and the older mini series is the best. The new one has great CGI but this one has better storyline that follows the book better. Both series have great young actors. But this one has no swearing, and less graphic gore.

This dvd killed my tv... I wish I was kidding. At about 3:30 am DVD player turned on and started playing this disc, when it got to the scene where penny wise pulls Georgie into the sewer the tv raised its volume to MAX volume as Georgie was being murdered, on its own! We coul not turn the tv off and couldn’t turn volume down, it wouldn’t let us even with manual controls. So we had to unplug tv to stop the madness!
In the morning the tv wouldn’t even turn back on.
I would have to say that was the SCARIEST way to be woken up ever!
This movie was scary beyond belief because it decided to come in in the middle of the night by itself and scare the ever living life out of me and my beau. 5 stars scary.

I normally don't watch horror or thrillers, but I wanted to compare the old version with the new version. I liked the older version better. I missed flipping the disc over to see the other side. :(

Better than the 2018 remake- watch it for Tim Curry's performance as Pennywise.

I decided to watch this version, after having watched the 2017 release. I found this version almost the same as the newer one, with two big differences. The first is that this one shows us the adults as they re-experience their childhood contact with IT, and plan to meet again as promised while children, if IT ever came back. The second is that it is not done as well, as I found it to be disjointed and never did see what the point of having the adults brought back into it.

I did not find it as creepy as the latest version, nor did I find that the Children were as much as a fit, whether it being the acting or the script. One reviewer said this version was closer to the book, but this version does not want me to read the book for any clarification either. I did not even want to look at the extras.
