Loved the orphan girl they are interested in adopting, she was quite funny. Just read the afterword by Dean Koontz. He got hate mail for the first time due to this book. Atheists were furious that he mentioned God, and heaven. Death threats, but none where signed. Then he got on the bad side of the Unitarian bioethics movement (they think people over 55, or the sick need to be killed) later with the book One Door Away from Heaven with yet more hate mail. On a roll he then upset the anarchists by writing The Face. DRK is one of my favorite writers, and I shall enjoy his books even more now, after learning he writes what he likes despite getting threatened!
I love how the author balances the worst of the worst with the ordinary good of this world! Yes - some gruesome sections but some beautiful ones too! Loved this book!
For those of you who found this "yucky" or "gross", you probably shouldn't be reading from the horror genre ! I read this years ago, and, as with the majority of Koontz's books, couldn't put it down. Long may he continue writing :-)
