Simple, funny and heart warming. Classic Willems <3

Great book that doesn't overload small children with words, but has tremendous meaning to older children (and us adults) as Gerald goes through agony and guilt over whether or not to share his precious ice cream. Any child or adult can relate to the feelings Gerald is having about the situation. And the revelation that it didn't end up like he thought.

My daughter's favourite book in the series! A funny and easy to read story with a good moral, and Willems' artwork is as fun as ever!

Another Mo Willems classic. Elephant and Piggy books are hilarious, very simple to read, and have plenty of Kindergarten and First grade sight words.

I felt like the piggy character was underdeveloped, and the moral message was muddied a bit when the issue about sharing was mixed with the concept that he who hesitates is lost.

The ice cream color - green - was also slightly confusing. Maybe it was pistachio? mint? Sadly, those questions went unanswered.

Why was the elephant wearing glasses? That just seems unrealistic. And of course it's a penguin selling ice cream, the worst sort of stereotyping. Why not a camel, or a hyena?

I grew slightly tired of this book sometime around the fifteenth reading, and that did not improve with additional readings.

My four-year-old just couldn't get enough of Gerald and Piggy in this one. The drama of the ice cream cone - both in the internal monologue of Gerald and the illustration of the ice cream - was thick enough to be cut with a knife. How can cartoons be so expressive?! Really taps into how over the top the emotions of kids can be. Sharing an ice cream IS a dramatic experience for someone this age!
