Yes, this book is funny. But it is also very skillfully assembled. If you could convince a 13- or 14-year old to pick up a book with cartoon bunnies on the front cover, he or she would probably enjoy this witty and fast read. One of the Newbery criteria is to be "individually distinct," which certainly applies in this case.

This is a delightful and surprisingly clever book that defies categorization. Adults and children alike will no doubt find charm in its wacky talking animals and goofy mysteries.

This is a truly fantastic book. It's hilarious and full of hippies and talking animals and mistakes of foreign languages, and marimba-playing parents of course. Polly Horvath classic.

I can only tolerate stupid characters if they're kind and don't mess things up too badly. Case in point: I get SO ANNOYED with Amelia Bedelia and Sideways Stories from Wayside School. But Mr. and Mrs. Bunny are just dense enough that they don't do any REAL damage; they're just kind of bumbling and charming and have lovely hats.

Thank goodness that Ms. Horvath has learned rabbit so that she could relate this wonderful story of two extraordinary bunnies that decide to become detectives. With the Vancouver Island setting and the tongue in cheek digs at the residents as well as current culture, it will have you glued to the book until the tale is told.
