"THE BLACK POWER MIXTAPE 1967-1975 mobilizes a treasure trove of 16mm material shot by Swedish journalists who came to the US drawn by stories of urban unrest and revolution. Gaining access to many of the leaders of the Black Power Movement Stokely Carmichael, Bobby Seale, Angela Davis and Eldridge Cleaver among them the filmmakers captured them in intimate moments and remarkably unguarded interviews. This film gets criticism for being "scattered", but I love the wide-ranging, highly nuanced perspectives offered here. The lack of polish is exactly what gives these snippets of interviews human interest and emotional depth. It gives you such a strong sense of the Swedes simply trying to figure out what the heck was going on in a cultural context that they couldn't understand. For those of us who didn't live through first wave Black Power, and only have access to stories where the discrepancies of reality are smoothed out, this documentary gives insight to more than the reductionist "MLK vs Black Panthers" tagline.

If my memory serves me correctly ,i think i liked this one more than i didn't overall. However,in 2014 i just found out the FACT that the old Black Panther Party was really just another CIA asset organization operation at best period, making this so-called good documentary an MK ULTRA BRAINWASH when i really think about it period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting documentary for those interested in the history of struggle. Lots of interviews, so it is more of a serious documentary.
