This is a 1969 Italian epic directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini based on the ancient myth of Medea.
It stars opera singer Maria Callas in her only film role, but she does not sing in the movie.
It would be much better for you to read the ancient story than to see this movie, which seems like a work of a freshman film student.
Although it provides eccentric yet fascinating and intereting scenes, the film doesn't show the story like an eloquent storyteller.
Besides, the soundtrack isn't appropriate for the story because you hear Tibetian buddhist music as well as Japanese 17th-century music at times.

That rare movie that my wife and I quit watching after the first 20 minutes. Pointless and awful.

Not only is the movie a dark and sinister story but it stars Maria Callas in her theatrical acting role.
She does a great Medea with venom and spite to spare.
On the same disc is the best documentary I've ever seen on the turbulent operatic diva.
I have nothing but respect for the great star and I think she was wrongly portrayed. She simply had standards set so high that she even fought with herself.

Bonus feature about Maria Callas is interesting, worth seeing.

a dry, but opulent, reading of Medea, a spurned seductress, who kills her children to spite their father's treachery, set in primordial settings with primordial, brutally pagan, mores, Maria Callas is appropriately fulgurating
