Vampire Knight:Guilty: is a noire; soaked in sanguineous storehouses of bleak, episodic bouts. Initially I was borderline creeped-out by the sensuality being more than what I had been use to in anime. I was creeped-out by the enamoration that the students (I assume human students) had for the vampires in the opening of the first episode). Having avoided the whole Twilight movies and books, myself; I probably can attribute this to as how I fell behind in modern vampire stories. I was confused on who was who early on, and on what connection they had toward one another, and of what faction they were belonging to or of . I advise, to look at the Relation Chart as soon as possible on the last DVD in the Extras section to get a better handle on who knows who…and on how they are related to one another. Unless I was not paying attention, these social cues did not seem to give way in the monstrous dialogues that presented themselves during the beginning of the series. The written scripted words were welcomed additions, pleasing my viewing experience. At times, though, VK:Guilty seemed erotic not only with words but with visual depiction as well; although, I grant that when blood is mingled between bodies, as such like in many chemical happenings…new changes can occur…life for one, and for the one…might inevitably change as well. This was a very drama centric piece with only some moments of laughing levity being provided by butt-monkey like character, the human headmaster. Most of the time, most characters were super serious,. Aido would occasionally get angry, and the series, to me, seemed to try to pass these moments off as looking like blustered buffoonery …as Aido is, from what I could tell, the only other comic relief, though a distant second to headmaster guy. I did feel that VK:Guilty was an excellent character study on character thinking processes and how a character evaluates thru feelings of their own self to other selves. VK:Guilty series did remind me of some jRPG video games that I had played in the past. I suppose though…after awhile, much of many stories, may feel like regurgitated memories of mine…either way, VK:Guilty felt fairly fine for a vampire anime series. 4.6/5.0 -Xandor Who; (some small editing: 4-22-14).
