Lots of sex and violence - makes you wonder how the Catholic church survived! Good mini-series by Showtime that has Jeremy Irons (always great) as Pope Alexander VI. Throw in the rich Medici and scheming rival cardinals and family politics and get all sorts of drama. Great cast, beautiful sets and costuming, grisly and fascinating storyline. Only lasted 3 seasons.
Fantastic costumes, good acting, and thrilling action drew me into this engaging historical drama which by the end weaves a fascinating story of ingeniously-corrupted power during the Italian Renaissance. If you like the Borgias, also see HBO's rousing "Rome" (Seasons 1 & 2, 2006-2007), the best-ever epic drama set during the Roman Empire.
Shocking dramatization on the early days when Pope Alexander VI from the Borgia clan tried to eliminate their enemies and hold on to the Papal throne. Hard to believe the travesties (adultery, simony, theft, bribery and murder promoted within the Church) but apparently historically truthful according to wikipedia.
Better than Game of Thrones. Jeremy Irons is off the charts as the Pope that everybody wants to pretend did not exist for Centuries.
