While it is not a traditional take on the Gilbert and Sullivan classic, it is nevertheless a wonderful reconfiguration. The staging is hip, the dancing acrobatic and the performances fun and campy. A refreshing change from the usual staid performances with the cast dutifully (and usually robotically) oversinging the productions. It is unpretentious, most delightful and exceedingly fun.

Folks should be aware that while this appears to use G&S lyrics, the music has been changed. It doesn't sound the least bit like G&S. If you're looking for a modern take on Pinafore, fine, but if like me you're looking for the classic to show to your kid, this is not what you want.

My husband and I also couldn't stomach it beyond the first number because the modernized music is really just the most banal Broadway-ish yawnfest you could imagine. Frankly, the Sideshow Bob version is better.
