I hate it when authors insert themselves into a book and this author does it extensively. She is an editor-at- large of Essence magazine and indeed, the book reads like a magazine. There are photos & commentary about Michelle Obama including her clothing, her hair, her attitude, her workouts, etc but then in each section, there's extensive talk from the author about how you can pull off something similar. On and on she goes about make-up and hair regimens; all very tedious to this feminist. When discussing workouts, the author detailed special exercises by age group; it ended with hints for those in their fifties. I guess us sixty-somethings might as well forget it.

I was somewhat surprised that the book was so nonchalant about the First Lady straightening her hair; no one seems to want to discuss that. What happened to the African-American woman with a natural??

Not much use unless you resemble Michele Obama.

Love her sense of style.
